Nocioni(r) - never gonna happen for the mle, chicago will match that in a second McDyess - for some reason he hated stating in detroit, even when sheed was suspended. i think he's too old/ worn down to play starters minutes Webber - i think he's too old/worn down as well. the dude has a vertical of like 2 inches. drew gooden is not in the same category as stros or steven hunters, we should go for it if we have the chance
Theyre pretty much the same... inconsistent, mistake prone, wont grasp defensive/offensive sets quickly. I would actually prefer Gooden over Wilcox. Wilcox is brollick but cant get a rebound if you tied the ball to a string on his finger. Both are athletic and can score... but both have problems picking up any offensive/defensive system, no matter how simple. Nocioni has range, quickness, great BBall IQ and a strong motor that wont quit.
Nocioni - not if Chicago plans on re-signing Ben Gordon, Luol Deng and Tyrus Thomas next summer. I highly doubt Chicago will re-sign Nocioni when they have been clear they need a post scoring presense next to Ben Wallace. If Nocioni were to re-sign with Chicago, they would low ball when Nocioni could easily command the MLE or more elsewhere. I think with the system (adelman) and free shots (TMac/Yao) Houston could offer him, we would be a great situation for him. Dice - http://www.82games.com/0607/06DET10C.HTM He had solid PER at PF. I agree with you that hes a bit old and worn down - that he would be a poor fit for a transition team like Pheonix... but for a half-court princeton offense, he would be ideal and could be had for reasonably cheap. Webber - I dont see him as a starter either but you cant get a better deal with the LLE. Gooden - I watched Orlando and the Cavs.... I think the knocks on Gooden's game (re: poor IQ, inconsistency, poor defense, trouble picking up/fitting into sets) are all valid. I wouldnt pay him $6.5 Million. He also got lit up by Antawn Jamison in the playoffs... How do you get lit by someone who's constantly triple teamed... Jamison had NOONE to help him open up shots.
I would take Gooden over Varejao anyday, I didn't really check who it was, but whoever said that can only be insane. Didn't anyone see what Sideshow Bob did at the end of Game 3. Another thing, this is the only trade I could've got to work. And it makes no sense as to why Cleveland would do this. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=3018~2447~825~2992~1711&teams=5~5~5~10~10 In any event that could land us a Rafer for Gooden swap with some throw-ins, we do it immediately.
dont get me wrong, i would love nocioni on this team. in fact he's one of my favorite players. i just think some team with money is gonna snatch him up. and he's gonna get more than the mle. les should be smart and offer a couple million above the mle for him and take the luxury tax hit or trade away spanoulis' contract to make up for the difference. i like dice too and his numbers, but the dude's a back up. and we are probally gonna give that role to chucky.
What I'm asking YOU to do is to not take something you read somewhere as gospel without doing a little critcal analysis. "Cap problem" is nebulous. A few summers ago, the Rockets traded Glen Rice to Utah who promptly waived him. That's a "cap problem" because they didn't meet the league mininum for payroll. Similarly, for most of their existence the Bobcats have had an ultra-low payroll by design and have had to add players to meet the minimum. The Cavs don't have a "cap problem"...it's a Luxury Tax problem. That's a more informative term to people/posters who marginally understand the CBA. Secondly and IIRC, "Insider" is written by Chad Ford. While we all appreciate your providing the info...it's FREAKIN' Chad Ford. The last big "inside" info he provided was......??? It's a boring time before the draft and all writers are throwing dreck on the wall to see what sticks. This is exemplary. Thirdly, if Nocioni is under-sized why again would the Cavs want him? They have LeBron collecting all the SF minutes. Tyrus is undersized? Do you realize what "size" starts for the Rockets at PF in the WC. Or that Gooden is 1" taller and whopping 15 #'s heavier than Thomas? Or that for the playoffs Gooden was MINUS 6.6? C'mon...it's a stretch to say that the Bulls are interested on Gasol, Garnett JO and Gooden in the same breath. It's dreck trying to stick...don't be deceived because it's an ESPN subscription service. If they didn't write something, you wouldn't continue to buy it. Lastly, please keep your political comments to yourself.
This is kinda OT - But, what about Melvin Ely? He's the 4th iif not the 5th option for SA for the 4/5. Is he available, is he any good?
It doesnt work that way... you are only allowed the MLE.. you cant give away players and get more of an exemption. I dont see Nocioni getting more than the MLE from any team except for maybe Charlotte... and Charlotte is already stacked at the 3-5 positions... does anyone know how many teams are under the salary cap? I am pretty sure there arent many and that most teams will have to use their MLE.
Ely had a semi-breakout season in a contract year. He wanted the full MLE or more but the Bobcats didn't think he was worth that (they were right). So he signed a one year deal in hope of putting up the same numbers or better and get his big contract but started the season badly and ended with a career low in numbers. His biggest weakness is his inconsistency and that was also JHo's major fault IMO..
Who told you Wilcox rebounds well? He averaged 7.7 last season which isnt great esp with a team with no other rebounders and a bunch of trigger-happy shooters. He avg 5.2 boards over his career and was one of the main reasons why the Clips got rid of him.
Gooden = rich man's Stro Swift A better shot, better rebounding, a little more motivated, less athletic, equally low IQ.
Thanks for the info. here's some for you: Orlando, Milwaukee, Charlotte and Chicago are under the cap. Only the first three teams i mentioned have enough room to give a player a max contract. There are three Max contract players out there (Billups, Lewis, Carter). Pretty much every othe team can only offer the MLE. There are several players that should command more than the MLE out there (Nocioni, G Wallace, M Williams) but that probally arent gonna get it unless they stick with their old teams. And there are several players who think they should get more thant MLE (Varejao, Milicic) but really dont deserve it.
Thanks for the info... very helpful. Anyway, teams like Chicago are probably gonna be stingy in the offseason because they will need to save some money to re-sign some of their younger talent. I guess my point was that most teams will only exercise the flexibility of their MLE. The first three teams you mentioned, who have more money than others to play with, are all teams in need of scoring in the back-court so I dont expect them all to rush to sign Nocioni. I think if the MLE is the best Nocioni can get, our only real competition in signing Nocioni is San Antonio only because they currently feature his friends from Argentina.... whatever the case, I think acquiring Nocioni for the MLE is more reality than fantasy.
www.82games.com has some useful information. The +/- has not been "adjusted" and may be affected by a number of "noises" they do give you some basic info. I'm sure Morey has the much more advanced data that filters ou the random variables. Gooden has had 2 straight seasons of negative +/-... seems too much to just be a fluke.
