Have you gone there for breakfast on a weekend? That will definitely change you mind. They also have good fajitas and a good burger, but the rest is pretty mediocre
But Grand Lux literally has the same menu as Cheesecake factory with many additions. Same goes for the deserts. I dont see how you can say cheesecake factory is better
Don't know if this was mentioned but I don't feel like reading 5 pages. For Brunch - Backstreet Cafe of off Shepard & W. Gray. For Breakfast anytime : Le Peep & Baby Barnabys For giggling like a school girl with your date at the name of a porno sounding Restauraunt : Backdoor Sushi on Shepard and Gray. If you want to be reminded of Austin just for a few moments and reminisce about your days at UT-Austin : Onion Creek on 6th in the Heights. For Desert : Ruggles Bakery
Ahhh eating out is my favorite thing so I'm gonna love this thread. - Tex-mex: El Tiempo (on Washington), Ninfas on Navigation, Molinas on Westheimer - Thai: Thai Gourmet just can't be beat. But as others have mentioned Kanomwan is really good and should be experienced at least once. - Vietnamese: Pho Binh, Pho de Lat - Chinese: Cafe Tai Pei (on Eldridge), Hunan Plus (Bellaire & Ranchester) - Sushi: Kubos for the really good stuff. Zake for cheaper and better atmosphere - Mid East - Kasra - Burgers: Pappas Burgers - Deli: Nielson's Deli
I can't believe a food thread died so quickly. Has anyone been to Hugo's for Mexican Food? I've hard it's really good, but somewhat pricey. I was thinking of checking it out this weekend.
Just tried the stuffed avocado at Cafe Adobe. It was pretty damn impressive. That reminds me. Does anyone know where to get a good stuffed artichoke? Preferably close to town?
I went shortly after it opened and, like Tex, was not impressed. It is certainly not bad but my Yucatan-style dish was inferior to the one at Pico's (yet to be mentioned in this thread, but a Houston classic). Harrisment - Thai Gourmet is pretty good but I think not as good as they were about 8 years ago. Perhaps it is just faulty memory, though, but the first time I had their triple spicy whole fish I was hooked but now it idoesn't seem as good.
I do, but not because of the stuffed artichokes. I had a less than stellar experience at Ciro's last time I was there. Collina's is a chain, and is moderately mediocre, but that's where I would probably go.
Just went to The Goode Company BBQ for the first time last night. Man that was good bbq, sides and jalapeno bread were awesome as well. And I can see why the pecan pie is so famous. Can't wait to go back. My faves: Mexican - Casa Ole or Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen BBQ - Goode Company! Italian - Piccolo's (hole in the wall at Westheimer and Windchase, and it's a gem) Burgers - Fudd's for now. I'm finally gonna try Bubba's Burger Shack on Saturday American - Cheddar's, though the service is lacking at times, the heaping portions of good food at reasonable prices usually makes up for it. Love Cracker Barrel as well for the same reasons. That's about all I can think of for now, since we can't afford to eat out too too often.
I'm REALLY simple with food. I can eat places like Luby's for lunch every day. But, in the spirit... Breakfast: 11th Street Cafe Vegetarian/Healthy: Baba Yaga's, Pepper Tree, Cricket's Creamery and Cafe Cajun/Grilled Stuffs: Jax Grill Asian: Mai's, Hunan Garden Pizza: New York Pizzareia, Candelari's American/Diner: One's a Meal, Barnaby's Mexican/Tex Mex: Spanish Flower Italian: Cavatore, Birraporetti's, Josephine's As an aside, I'd like to find some great seafood places to try if anyone has suggestions.
Oh yeah, how could I leave out pizza. Brother's Pizza at I10 & Hwy 6 is the best. Great NY style pizza and friendly people serving it to you. I've been to The Grand Lux once. It was really good, but a few of us at our table had to change our orders because they were out of so many things. And it wasn't even 6:00 on a Wednesday!
Been there many times. Excellent food! Bill's on 494 in Kingwood has the best burgers I've ever tasted.
Are you eating meat now? I hate to recommend a chain, but Pappa's seafood in Clear Lake never fails to impress. The other locations aren't bad, but there's something about that Clear Lake location.........they've been doing it right for a long time. You'd think being close to the coast, we'd have good Seafood all around, but it seems like everywhere else I go it's always hit or miss. Granted, cold water seafood is typically better, but man!!---there is SOME good seafood in the Gulf.......why can't there be more good cooked seafood in Houston?
FLASHBACK!!!!!!!!!!! that place still exists??? the last time i ate there was around 1986, maybe? wow.
