Been there quite a few times.........granted, it's definitely been more than a year since I've been to Cuisine of India. I used to work in that area.....about two years ago.......and although Cuisine had a few dishes I liked better than Mogul, overall I liked Mogul much more. After last night, it wouldn't take much for Cuisine of India to be a LOT better.
is this the place that's placed right in the ghetto across from what was once Burger King but is now a Taco something? the place is always packed. it's so obscure, i'm surprised anyone know's about it. i've lived half a mile from there for about 22 years and i've never been.
Mexican Deli on Dairy Ashford/ N. of Westheimer. Tortas will make your belly give you a hug in appreciation.
I went to Fungs a couple weeks ago for a school field trip. I totally sucked. Worst Chinese Food i've ever eaten in Houston. It was worse than Chinese food actually from China. I also see a lot of people have put Good Company Taqeria on their list. I personally think their food is awful. Definitely the worst of all the Good Company restaurants. Ruggles has good desert but their food is very mediocre.
I don't like Fung's for lunch or dinner, but for traditional dim sum on the weekends it's pretty damn good.
Buck mentioned it already, so I'll go ahead and third this suggestion. I've only been once and had the pambazo, which is a torta made on bread that's been dipped in a chile sauce. It is stuffed with potatoes, chorizo, sour cream and cheese. Un. Real.
No real menu.....you sit down at a table, and servers come by with carts of various small size portions of whatever.......usually in steamer baskets. You pick out what you want each time they come around. It's a good way to try a bunch of everything.
Dim Sum = asian tapas But you don't have to order it ahead... just pick and choose as they come by, and pay as you go.
Depends on what you want... the smaller dishes are around 2.95 - 3.95, while the bigger ones are closer to $5. But, keep in mind that the dishes are a lot of steamed buns/dumpling/meat-ball type things that are 3-4 per plate. Thus, if you're eating by yourself or with another person, you're more likely to get full off of less dishes... whereas if you're in a bigger group, you can sample more items and get the full flavor. When I eat with a group of 3-4, the total bill is never more than $30 (drinks/hot tea not included).
OK, then...that makes sense. I don't really eat much Chinese out as I prefer the homemade stuff but Fung's does some dishes very very well (soft shell crab, for example, is outstanding) and those are the ones I get - I don't get any of the Americanized stuff. They are the place for visiting rich Chinese and the executive chef has certainly won a lot of awards. Tex is right, their Dim Sum is generally good...but they often vary so much from week to week that you don't always know what you will find. My old standby is Golden Palace, though, just because of the history. For a lighter version we go to the Chinese-owned Kim Son in Sugar Land that Tex has already mentioned. PS - for anyone who gets Dim Sum at Fung's or Golden Palace - you will need to do it the Chinese way and chase down the carts with your price sheet and not just sit at your table. You will miss out on the good stuff otherwise.
Burgers - Joe's Mesquite Grill, Hobbit Cafe MidEast - Fadi's, Shawarma King Fast food - Whataburger :] Chinese - Cafe Goo Goo Yen, Cafe 101
no way. the mango drink was terrible at Grand Lux compared to Cheesecake. I like Cheesecake much better. there is a place called Mak Chin's in midtown. The food is really good and they have nice happy hour specials. Kasra is the bomb for Persian food (next to Yao's restaurant)....too many other good places to list
