So I make an opinion on something and it means that Pat Robertson is my idol and god? Do me a favor and don't tell me how to feel.

So I jump to conclusions by assuming Harry Potter is a piece of literature containing wizardry and magic. You jump to conclusions that my opinions are gathered from ultra-conservative busy-bodies with nothing better to do than try and slap the world's hand? Here is an idea for you, try using a different approach instead of the same one just used.

I have to admit I enjoy works like Lord of the Rings, and other movies like The Matrix in which supernatural powers are portrayed. But I believe they can teach morals and valuable lessons. What do these Harry Potter books teach 6 year olds? How to transform yourself into a fairy?

I have not yet read the latest Ender book, but Ender's Shadow and Shadow of the Hegemony were both excellent reads.

They teach kids how to use their imaginations. Open a book and put yours to use.

This sounds very Homophobic. If it is I'll leave it alone... you have bigger problems to fix. Hatred is a bad thing.

Well, To be honest, The reading material I have doesn't leave much to the imagination ;)

I didn't mean that to sound like homophobic reference, And I assure you I do not hate these books at all. I do not care for them. But, not having read them, I cannot properly assert any judgement on the matter.

Nobody said anything about Pat Robertson...you did. So
I guess it strikes a chord of truth.

Bottom line: If you're going to come in here and make such definitive statements like something is "garbage" you damn well better have done your homework and actually smapled the product. To do otherwise merely makes you look like a complete and total a$$clown.

Ahh, if you had learned to use your imagination you wouldn't need that type of reading material. ;)

So I'm an assclown because I insulted your favorite bedtime story without reading it? I'll be sure to "smaple" the product now.

How can you get so worked up over a kids' book?

Beans' new book pretty good. All part of one giant story. Just finished Shadow Puppets...dug it.

    However, better read:
I tell you, read Hyperion by Dan Simmons. Fantastic read

Man this whole thread is too funny. Nomar, moes, stop right now, you look really bad.

I find it funny that people can actually try and argue about something they have never experienced. I think the important thing here is that these books are getting kids to read. I mean I will be an English teacher soon. ( please do not judge my spelling, or grammar because of this, i know it stinks. I'm a work in progress.) There is an English class labeled. Literature for adolescents It teaches teachers how to use books such as Harry Potter, the Chocolate war, and other teen and youth novels to introduce young readers to larger more complex works. I mean if we just stuck with what we liked and didn't broaden our horizons a bit, I would still be reading about the fire cat, otto the fish, and some fantastic fox. Harry Potter is a great series for kids and adults. It gets them to read, anything that does that is a good thing in my book. . . ha ha.

For those of you that think anyone that reads these books are, " stupid" and not up to your lofty standards of reading should really look in the mirror. I will tell you Nomar that there are plenty of people who look at fantasy books in general as a joke. ie a pimply nerd sitting in a dark room playing D&D with his super dork buddies trying to relive a story they once read.

Finally why do you guys care so much that you have to basically ruin two threads to try and prove what you read is better than Harry potter. Are you intimidated by harry potter, it may surpass you precious Lord of the Rings:eek: People might read Harry potter instead of Dune. . Heaven forbid. Go take a nap read a good novel, when you are reading dune and lotr your definitely not reading literature. . . yet. and have a happy day campers:D

thats odd that its 734 pages long... I remember reading one of Rowlings interviews that said itd be a lot shorter then the 4th book. oh well, those books are awesome. Prisoner of Azkaban has to be the best one so far.. they can't make that movie fast enough.

To be able to write something that will hold a child's attention for 734 pages is quite a feat.

Great, I guess I already know what Miss Cleo will tell me tomorrow.

"You are a homophobic, easily angered and you are an ass-clown"

Refman, your elementary school profanities make me wonder if you are defending Harry Potter because you just wrote a book report on it.

Actually if you'll READ my post, you'll see that I said:

"To do otherwise merely makes you look like a complete and total a$$clown."

I didn't say you ARE one...I said your post made you LOOK like one. There is a difference.

    Wow.

Am I alone in thinking it's a good thing to have kids interested in books?!?

    Sounds like a judgement.

Actually, I read them all hoping to learn how to turn other people into fairies. It took a while-- you have to read the seventh character of the third paragraph of all the even-numbered chapters to get the spell, but I got it.

It should make the next ClutchCity.net get-together pretty interesting.
