This sounds simple, but it's not as simple as that. Newt Gingrich (love him or hate him) wanted to do a National referendum (a nationwide vote) on whether or not to legalize mar1juana. It didn't happen but he wanted to do it so that there would be an official pole on whether or not the country wanted to legalize it or not. That would give the politicians cover is they chose to legalize it (hey! The country voted on it!) or they could rationalize the drug laws. Politicians exist to get re-elected and, while it may happen soon, right now the political climate is such (i.e. most of the <i>voting</i> public) that for most making pot illigal would be political suicide.
The only problem with that is making voting laws simple enough so that any citizen could vote by just showing up at the polling place with no prior paperwork, fill out a form and vote. Minnesota has this process no, but every other state in the union makes you fill out paperwork months before an election. In addition, voting on it opens up a fatal flaw. A majority of Americans no longer smoke, but shouldit be illegal? No. It is a freedom to do what I want to my body. Alcohol and Tobacco are legal but there are restrictions on their content and use. Legalize it. Let farmers grow it and sell it to big tobacco. Regulate it. Pacakge it. Tax the dog poopy out of it. Sell at 7-11 with the other harmful legal drugs.
Wow, I'm sure this is the crowning victory in the war on drugs. Say goodbye to drug abuse. What a move!
I don't get it? When did it become illegal to sell bongs, papers, etc? Back in the day I could make a gravity bong in 2 minutes with a Gatorade bottle, a knife and a piece of foil. Maybe Ashcroft should take down Gatorade, Alcoa(Reynolds Consumer Products) and Ginsu too.
Watch out they may start raiding houses and confiscating any empty soda cans or bottles, cardboard toilet rolls, apples (yes they work) aluminum foil, Swisher sweets, etc. etc. etc. There are so many things you can smoke tobacco out of---
Oh ya, glass, he he um one time at bong camp we made a water pipe out of an old bottle with a rubber stopper on top and fed a plastic hose through the bottle that was filled with ice water and so the smoke came out ice cold... he he.... he Oh uh, what were we talkin' about again?
