I'm still mad at Jalen Rose for the flagrant on Elie. He never played the same again. Steve to Canada would be ironic. Thanks, Doc.
Steve alone for Rose etc. doesn't work. However, Francis and Cato for Rose, Bosh and their #1 would fit both teams. We would cry over losing Steve, and they would cry over losing Bosh. Also, we would rejoice in getting Rose because he would be effective as a PG here, while Toronto would rejoice in shedding Rose's contract. Win-win.
Sane, I agree that even if I were 100% confident that this hasn't gotten somewhat muddled in translation, I think Stevie has only limited access to this sort of information and it could change at any time. It's fun to speculate, though. MacBeth, how's Marshall as a passer? He seems like an ideal guy to give the entry pass to Yao.
Terrible example. JW was a bust due to offseason, non-ball related injury. Same thing could happen to Yao, Kobe or McGrady.
The Charlotte deal has more appeal to me as that could open up many more avenues to explore regarding free agency and cap issues. Who would be available at 4?
Not that Rose has Francis' athletic ability, but it should be noted that the immediate results aren't as disaparate as some seem to believe; Rose last year ( who play a similar slow down game): 15.5 ppg, 5 asts, 4 rebounds, and a + 13.17 efficiency. Those aren't too far from Steve's numbers, ROse shot better from the field and three pt range despite playing part of the year with a cast, and his numbers were better than above after coming over from Chicago. Additionally, he has had years as good or better than Francis' years, and unlike anyone on the team, has been a star player on teams that went deep into the playoffs.
Macbeth- I think the lineup you have (with Marshall/Rose as the forwards) is probably too small/soft to really employ a JVG defense. I can't see JJ coming off the bench, really. Personally, Marshall just doesn't seem like a fit for JVG...his early career knocks were being lackadaisacal, and maybe I'm just reading too much, but at times he just looks disinterested to me. He sure did put up a big season in Toronto, though. The other guy we may have interest in would be Alvin Williams...a big defensive PG who takes care of the ball. His only problem is his outside shooitng. A Rose-Mobley-JJ perimeter would be interesting. A whole lot of interchangeability. What I find interesting is both of these deals seem to involve a high pick as a principle piece...
Doc,your information is invaluable. Does Francis want to leave because one or more of his boys are likely to be sent out of town or does he want to play somewhere else? I consider this to be bad news for us. We need better players to surround him and Ming.
Yeah, he's a heady passer. Haven't seen him with a legit 5, so can't say what kind of consistent ep passer he is, but it would seem consistent that he would be. He already often makes the nive high/low pick pass to the guy under the board very well.
Rose and Marshall were on the Raps who, despite other weaknesses, played really dolid D for most of the year, without a Yao to funnel everything to. Marhall plays really, really hard. He just ohysically looks like a hang dog guy, but he's not at all.
A deal with the Raptors for Steve must include Bosh. If it cant be done keep Steve for another Trade. I would rather take Bosh than have their pick unless we could get Okafur [Sp] as the Draft Pick.
Bosh will not be traded. It's something akin to suggesting that the Rockets trade Yao after last season.
hmm, with both of these deals it shows that the rockets are interested in drafting to fill some holes. at the 4 spot potential guys they could be looking at with the number four, or wherever torontos pick drops are, biedrins and splitter. if they think they need an upgrade at the 3 spot, it could be any number of deng, childress, josh smith(highschool), chiraev(highschool i think). i dont think from the crop of 1s in this years draft that they will use a pick on one really high, only high picks worth it are livingston (Highschooler) telfair (highschooler) harris and gorden...both of whom im no impressed with.
As I stated above, Bosh must be in the deal unless Toronto can win the lottery and trade us the #1 or #2 pick (Okafor or Dwight Howard). Their current pick is #8, and there are only severe gambles at that range.
That pick can realistically range from 4 to 10 right? So, would the Rockets know where they're picking ifthey make this trade or not? That's the most important question. The Charlotte thing sounds more like something STEVE would like rather than something that's being discussed.
I really like Donyell Marshall. I frickin' HATE Jalen Rose. This would be the STUPIDEST trade in the history of the NBA. I hate you. Get that trash off my monitor. Now I puke until July 1. Is that the best we can do? Come on! That completely sucks. All we need - a selfish, boneheaded, turnover-prone ballhog. Out frickin standing. You gotta be kidding me if Les can sign off on that. Good-bye Toyota center crowds. Rockets are the stupidest team in all basketball.
MacBeth, you have said many times that you root for Toronto (and Bosh) as a secondary team to the Rockets. I am not that sure Toronto would balk if they have a chance to pair Carter and Francis with a legitimate center (Cato) to recycle their misses.
I hope neither of these trades go down. Both of them depend on draft picks as the X factor and this draft isn't one I want to place all my future success on. Although watching the Spurs Lakers game is giving me hope that you don't need massive amounts of superstars to be successful. It'd be refreshing to watch a team game again. I'm gonna check draft.net but what guys would we think about drafting at 4 or 8? We definitely need quality size but the list seems littered with lanky Euros and high school kids.
