somebody mentioned an upgrade at the 3 spot, which could be the "easiest" way to upgrade. I have not checked the salaries out but what about Cat + TE for Wally Szerbiak? For us - we get the dead eye spot up shooter(roughly 50% from field, 40% from 3). Yao draws the double, kicks it out to Wally. Steve drives the lane, kicks it out to Wally. He won't need to create his own shot and JVG can cover up any defensive weakness with team D. JJ slides to the 2 spot. For Minny - long term replacement for Sprewell at a fraction of the cost and some cap relief for a player they have proven they don't really need to succeed. thoughts?
I like it, although I think we might need that TE for a quality PF. Minny is likely more than willing to part with WZ and his fat contract, however, if i'm the rox i make them take one of our bads along with Mobes, like say Mot.
A trade for Wally's not bad. However, I wouldn't do this unless Steve was gone for a defensive-minded traditional role player PG (with a perimeter shot) and PF. Wally's not much of a defensive player, and I wouldn't want Stevie and Wally in the same backcourt.
I did not see it mentioned anywhere, but maybe I missed it in this 13 page monster. Toronto doesn't have a GM so I HIGHLY doubt this deal as discussed with the Raptors is even a glimmer in anyone's eye. And my 2 cents on the other deals talked, SF for #4? I hate it. SF, Cato, Mobley for TMac and Hill? I love it. Think it helps both teams immensely. Would leave us some more work to do on our roster, but I can live with that. SF to LAC for Brand or Wilcox and change would also be a solid deal as well. Wilcox and Jaric and cap filler for SF would work I think for both teams.
Toronto does have a GM, Jack McClosky ( aka Trader Jack). He is an interim GM, but I assume he has been given full range in the meantime. Not that I necessarily think it's going to happen.
Agreed, I wouldn't mind Wally, but wouldn't use the trade exception for him. I think both teams would consider Mobes/Cato for Wally/Ervin Johnson. We get rid of Cato's contract and get Johnson, who has one more year left. I think Ervin could play 15 minutes a night behind Yao next year. Since the Kandiman has been a bust, Cato would feel in nicely at C for the Wolves. Then, hopefully we could trade Mo + TE for a solid 4.
NEVER. Why trade a durable player with a reasonable contract in Mobley for the injury-prove Wally? Wally has a horrendous contract(www.**************). 2004-05 = $9MM 2005-06 = $10MM 2006-07 = $11MM 2007-08 = $12MM 2008-09 = $13MM
*sigh* Isn't there a Jim Rome message board you are supposed to be posting on? Personally, I don't want an upgrade at the 3. The best that we could hope for would be a 5% upgrade in 3 point shooting. That means that 1 more 3-ball in 20 would go in. CD, if you are going to trade Steve, please get us a point guard with a good midrange jumper and low turnovers - and a PF who can defend, shoot, and rebound. Is that too much to ask?
MB... I would do the VC/Francis. I just despise Rose with a red-poker hatred. add Cato for Marshall/Palacio and you're golden. (RGMapproved!) Now- you have Francis - Rose - Bosh. Isn't that good? You've been telling me Rose is a team guy with handles - a guy that can help Francis, no doubt. So, why not trade Half-Man, Half-a-Season for a more durable "all-star" ? It'll be interesting to see what Dr. J makes of all this. Is Mr. Erving on board with the team's star? I'm guessing VC is gonzo. also - Phillip did the innovation. Alex doesn't impress me. What'd he leave behind? A big fat mess.
1) VC>SF, DM > KC, so I really can't see it happening. 2) LOl. Doubt it'll be Erving, although he sure is campaigning pretty hard. 3) Really don't see them moving Carter, bit I suppose anything is possible. 4) Phillip did some of the innovations; the longer spear/lighter armor, the elimination of baggage trains, the adoption of Theban tactics, to a degree. But Alexander definitely added several key elements, especially transforming the strike force from the phalanx to the cavalry, and his in battle/campaign adjustments were nothing short of brilliant, including the only major battle where father and son were together, Alexander's decisions were the key to victory against the Greek cities. That said, I agree to a point, and am actually arguing the reverseof my normal position, which comes up when people discount Phillip's role.
sure you can't discount phillip, he invented the sarissa, he built up the war chest which alexander used. but c'mon... alexander was his own man, parmenio and aristotle would have both argued that phillip would not have match alexander in ambition. although a lot of alexander's success can be attributed to his yearning to legitimize himself as opposed to being phillip's son.
Just wondering what it's like on the 13th floor... BTW- Why would SF (who seems to not know much) know anything about himself being traded? I think he wants a trade more than he admits, and this is how he expresses his desire. To tell "a buddy" what he thinks so that it can be "heard." SF stays. IMO.
Just to chime in, Vince Carter has taken a much larger nose-dive than Francis. He kept sayign before the season how he was going to "come back" this season and show everyone... But he didn't do anything. His status as one of the best players in the league is hanging by a thread. That thread is the only difference between Steve and Vince right now.
I never do that Toronto trade. But the Bobcat trade would be nice if we could get a bad contract off our hands too. Think how much cap space the Rocets would have if they got rid of Francis and say Cato?
I dont think this is true. Steve is not going anywhere. I think mobley is the one that will get traded and taylor will be gone also.
THIS IS B.S ............................Toronto does not have a GM..... it would be silly if the interim GM makes such a big deal before the REAL GM gets his input in.........dumbest thread EVER......Jalen Rose is overpaid and is in no way shape or form anywhere close to Francis as a talent.......the only reason SF is not working here is because his style of play....people all want to be INSIDERS...what a joke..... expect to see another star player in retern for Francis he's not going for no Jalen Rose.....though he would be an awesome fit for T.O.....it would be the greatest trade ever...
i doubt these rumors will bear any fruit but you need to know who Doc Rocket is before you chime in like that. Anyhow...I think that after reading all 13 pages of this thread, my hunger to trade Steve away has lessened. Granted, he drives me insane with his erratic play but he's still a good player. Trading mobley would be a better option. I mean...mobley + the trade exception can net us a PF (shareef?) that we need. Basically I think that we don't need a 20/10 guy at the PF slot..it'd be nice but with Steve and Yao...a PF getting 15/10 or 12/10 is just as good. it's like a combinatio of Cato and MoT. Getting Mcgrady has been a pipedream of mine for a while and I would still like to see it happen, but I think we got some pieces (mobley, MoT, cato, TE) that we can work with that can net us what we need (backup/starting PG, starting 4, etc).
