I never take critic reviews into account. I do pay attention how the general public perceives the movies, however. Can't really think of an example at the moment... But I can think of multiple well received movies that I thought were mediocre at best.
This is an interesting thread except that I keep seeing posters say Event Horizon was a good movie. How am I supposed to believe anything you say after that?
Event Horizon is really, really bad. Death To Smoochy is really, really mediocre. The general public sucks at reviewing movies in my opinion. I'll stick to the collective opinions of critics, unless comedy is the genre, in which case I will make an educated guess. Dumb & Dumber for instance did not do well with the critics, because they just don't get it, because they are tooooo old for comedy...
I watched it last night. It isn't completely awful, but I don't think it is worth the two hours really, unless you have a bunch of candy and popcorn and just want to chill out and laugh at it. (It has some pretty fun scenes) It's the guy that directed Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil, and a bunch of other ****ty movies. I still think Mortal Kombat is his best actually, which isn't saying much. Like those movies, it just feels really cheap and doesn't do justice to the good actors that are in it. (Mortal Kombat was good campy fun though)
42% on Rotten Tomatoes, 38 on Metacritic. "Are you OK?" "I don't know. I'm kind of ****ed up in general, so it's hard to gauge."
What was your expectations going into this movie? If you expected MY LEFT FOOT in space. . .or THE PIANO in SPACE well . ..you right. . you did not get that Rocket River
The Big Lebowski didn't do well with the critics or the box office when it first came out -- now it's a cult classic.
My expectations were that it would be better than an episode of the original series of Star Trek. As a huge sci-fi & horror fan, this film is all over the place. It is like an extremely ****ty version of Aliens, with an ending that you might see in a crappy, early Clive Barker knock off. The only way I would recommend it is If you liked the director's Resident Evil stuff, which I really just can't stand. The guy has one of the worst director profiles along with Uwe Boll.
So you don't like Clive Barker . . . well . . explains alot. It just is not your style of movie it was over the top horror. some decent comic releif Rocket River
Just looking, and Death Proof got pretty mediocre reviews, 64% at Rotten Tomato. (That's complicated by its release as a double-bill, perhaps.) I thought it was tremendous, one of Tarantino's best.
I was definitely wrong about this movie and glad I finally saw it. Lost in Space - It was a cheesy sci-fi adventure with some pretty good effects. And I enjoyed it as such. And Appleseed and Ex-Machina were both pretty badass, but the first one got just a 25%
I love Clive Barker. I found this to be a weak, cheapened interpretation of Clive Barker. Clive Barker is the man!
I thought Larry and Sam were good in it. I loved the comic releif guy surviving all the crazy stuff BTW - Love Sam Neil in MOUTH OF MADNESS it was another kind of off movie. . . but i liked it Rocket River
