Try Pars Deli at Burnet Rd. and 183: http://www.austinchronicle.com/issues/dispatch/2003-01-03/food_roundup7.html
The only others I know of are- Phoenicia (north/south) Chooby Doo (wm Cannon/Brodie) I think there are more north of 183, but I wouldn't know I've heard San Antonio has some good selections. I love Niko Nikos
Phoenicia is really good, but very limited with their menu, and more of a takeout place. What the heck is "Chooby Doo??" That's in my end of town. I'll have to check that out. (I get lost everytime I go to SA, even though my wife's originally from there. hell, she gets lost, too!)
Chooby Doo is just a small little place kind of like Phoenicia or Pars. Its worth checking out, Its in that center by BoA, Firestone, hollywood video. Theres not much selection in Austin, a good restaurant central would probably do well. I think most of them are in Pville and RR though
Thanks, I know the strip center too well. I'm looking forward to a lot of new places to eat out this way over the next year or so. God knows, the area needs them. Hopefully, one will be a real Greek place. Mousaka, Greek salads, roast chicken... yummy!
thats dimassis, dont really like the joint. 9 bucks and the food isn't good...found a someones long hair in my chicken.... i personally like house of kebab...5 or 6 bucks for some good food. my mouth waters for more grape leaves... turqois grill right off of kirby is ok....a bit overpriced and with terrible service though.
That chick from 96.5 likes Christies? That place sucks. Way overpriced and very mediocre food. If ya want good fried shrimp, go to the Baytown Seafood on South Main near Reliant Stadium (each Baytown Seafood is independently owned and the quality of food varies greatly from place to place, but the one on South Main is good). Then you can go to Hank's Ice Cream for dessert.....YUM!
Well, it is her parent's restaurant. What do you expect her to say? Obviously SHE liked the food a whole lot when she was younger.
Oh heck yeah! That place rocks! . I used to eat there once a week cuz I lived right down the street from it. A bit on the pricey side but hey it's seafood. It's not FAST FOOD quality or anything.
There is a new place called Aladdin near Westhiemer and Montrose that is pretty good. But I'm not an expert critique on Greek food by any means. I do like it all, but I guess I'm not fully aware of what is excellent or not. I do love Niko Niko's and I've been to Fadi's. Been meaning to check out the Turkish place in the Village by Lil' Woodrow's. Just haven't made it out yet. Is Dimassi's in the Village as well? By Baker Street? Or am I thinking about the wrong thing?
Yeah, there's one in the village. One near the galleria. And one ... um ... off shepherd maybe? I forget. I think I've seen 3, only been to the village & galeria ones though. I mean, it's a buffet, so don't expect the best quality food. But it's fun to sample everything sometimes.
On the inexpensive end, I like Fadi's. On the higher end, I like Garson, on Hillcroft. The shiraz beef tenderloin is excellent.
Anyone eat at Cafe Lilli? If still open, it is located on Wesheimer in a strip center near Augusta. Nice family run place. Lebanese with that good strong coffee with the spice. Good deserts. The owner told me about visiting Lebanon with tears in his eyes. He said it had been a tourist place in the '60s-beautiful beaches and hotels. I liked the food-good deserts.
