I'm almost 40 and recently got a friend request from my mother (age 71). Sadly, I had to decline/ignore the request. I fear her fragile mind might crumble under the weight of some of the language/topics issued forth by my friends and acquaintances.

lol...my dad added me a few months back. Took me a month or so to accept. I don't use my facebook much anymore anyways....so doesn't matter to me.

Although my old pics of me doing a keg stand wasn't too smart to have on there.

Most of my family including parents, aunts and uncles are on. Who I am is no mystery them so it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I actually like it, since I live so far away from everyone.

There's nothing more awkward than having a parent comment on a picture of 'drunk you'.

Eh. My parents have made fun of me having hangovers for years. They know it happens. They at least have a good sense of humor about it. But then again, I've got that kind of relationship with my parents.

I am on one son's facebook and my father is on mine. People really need to be careful about what they post on facebook anyway. There have been stories of future employers and colleges looking people up.

It has been a good way to keep up with my son's love life, his status changes pretty frequently.

Good Idea: Inviting your parents to view a Picasa Album from your weekend at Yosemite

Bad Idea: Inviting your parents to view your facebook album entitled "Plastered in Vegas"

Normally I would be against it, but I keep my "incriminating" stuff private on my page (pictures, wall, etc), so my mom is my facebook friend.

There is a lot of stuff that I do in my personal life that I would prefer to not be easily accessible to my parents. I wouldn't necessarily care if they found out, and in the back of their mind they probably have an idea of what goes on, but I prefer not to make it explicit. Does that make sense?

Good idea as long as you keep them on limited if there is risky stuff on the profile.
