Shure, etymotic, and ultimate ears all make great in ear headphones. They block out most ambient noise and have great sound quality. Noise cancelling is only good for planes because the sound quality sucks. I skip the bose headphones they give me on the plane because my ultimate ears and etymotics sound so much better.
I wouldn't invest in anything over the ear or expensive for the gym. Over the ear head phones are best for home use anyways. I have some Grados. Akg's are good. I can't live without my E5's though.
My wife is the same way. She can't stand them, and always complains when I let her borrow and old pair that I no longer use. The other day she tried the klipsch earbuds and loved them. They fit in perfect and come with 3 different detachable sizes. I had to steal them back from her. I now know what one of her Christmas presents is going to be.
http://head-direct.amazonwebstore.c...froogle&utm_medium=organic&utm_source=froogle RE0s. Best Bang for the Buck IEMs out there. You can google for great reviews out there and rave reviews on head-fi.org. I also have the top of the line Ultimate Triple.fis that Amazon had on sell for $99 awhile ago and definitely prefer these. Very lightweight, you don't even feel they're there, sound is amazing, quality is good. You may be put of from a unknown, I believe Chinese maker, as well as some ugly packaging, but definitely do your research on these.
Bought a pair of these last year to exercise with and highly recommend them...Sennheiser PMX 70 Sport . Good sound, stays in place, and you never have to fiddle around with it. The only problem is that you cannot lay your head back flat since they're "behind the neck," which means you have to take them off to do bench press.
You won't have the noise attenuation/canceling of over the ear closed headphones, but as far as sound quality, portability, aesthetics, and price, you cannot go wrong with the Koss KSC 75 ($15) or PortaPro ($30). Well regarded cans in the headphones community. As a reference, I mainly use Beyerdynamics, Audio Technicas and Grados.
What would the best for a student? (all I do is run) Also, my ear is weird and earphones, like the ones Apple has, don't really fit all that well. Suggestions?
Get a better model that has at least 3-4 sizes of inserts so you can pick the ones that best fit your ear. I would like to put in my opinion about a comment made ealier, the Senn 515 is not much of an upgrade over the HD201 for the price. It is larger and has larger drivers but if you want a premium setup go at least for the Senn 555.
for working out, i don't recommend headphones. get some earbuds. the custom earphones are best at noise cancellation and SQ but you'll end up paying an arm and a leg (~$1000) These are the best for value. They won't crap out on you as quickly and the overall SQ is good. good bass resoonse, decent sound-staging, sibilance present depending on your source and amp but i'm guessing you're just going to plug it straight into the headphone jack of your ipod nano or iphone. ULTIMATE EARS Triple Fi 10 Pro listed at 400-$500 but here http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Ears-Triple-fi-Earphones-Metal/dp/B000JFJDAE it's $279.00 (actually a very good price for what you get) check the "vi" version if you want an inline mic for your iphone etc.
what's your price range? The Sennheiser HD25-1 ii http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD25-1-II-Professional-Headphone/dp/B000W8XRKK or German Maestro GMP 8.35 http://www.amazon.com/German-Maestro-GMP-8-35-Headphone/dp/B002LVUKFQ Some people tout the GMP as the best closed headphones. pairing it with the Sennheiser HD800 as their open headphones and the GMP as their closed. I personally enjoy the Denon AH-D7000 as my closed headphones but it doesn't do so well in the noise-cancellation dept.
I respectfully disagree. Heck, the HD202s sound better than the 201s (greater dynamic range, less tinny midrange), and the 515s are better still. Yes, the 555s own all of them, but at twice the price, they should. The other thing the 515s have over the 201s and 202s, besides better sound, is a greater level of comfort. I have quite a sizable noggin, so the larger 515s fit much more comfortably. Of course, I agree that, if the budget allows, the 555 should be the cans of choice.
http://www.complyfoam.com/ You will Rep me later! I have been using these with a set of Ultimate Ears Triple Fi's for the past 2 years and I can't be more satisfied!
I'll be looking to get something like Sennheisers or Sonys in the next couple of months. I don't care about "ultimate sound quality" since most of my listening is sports talk at work. lol. I want to get something better than the current $20 pair of on-ear JVC's I have because they aren't great for music. They've served me well for the past 3-4 or so years, though. I figure my target price is "under $100" and I've seen good reviews on Sennheiser and Sony over-the-ear ones for that price. *EDIT* : Removed erroneous link - see YouTube links on next page.
The Koss leaks so you could be a nuisance to those around you in the train, and I don't think anyone would ever work out in triplefi's. I have the RE0's, and they are almost undisputedly, the most neutral/transparent phones you can buy, and at a very good value too. BUT, they're really really microphonic, I can't run in them at all. All cable motion is so loud even when using the included clip. Plus sweat gets into the little enclosure, and ruins the paper/foam filter that sits inside of it. If you're gonna work out in headphones they're gonna get trashed. Sweat, water, cable kinks, whatever, they're going to take a beating. I can vouch for these, Sony J10's, I used for running and gym use for 3-4 years carelessly, until I slammed my car door on it.
