I worked my way through college there. one tip about Mike's reuben...there is a small size. The small size was the regular size back in the day. Mike figured out that why charge less for a "small". Why not introduce a super-size to the menu and call the regular the "small." haha So, the old "regular" is now the "small." Order the "small combo reuben." Trust me. It is half corned beef and half hot pastrami. roughly 1/2 pound of meat. The hot pastrami is out of this world, but so juicy (euphemism for fatty) you have to cut it with corned beef or you really can't finish it. at least, I can't finish a straight hot pastrami. Da Glyde and Fatty Fat b*stard It is not called Brennan's (that's the Smith St, transplanted New Orleans restuarant.) You are thinking of Brenner's. And yes, I agree: Best steakhouse in Houston, although I haven't been there since Fertitta (Landry's Restuarant company) bought it. I hear he didn't try to change anything. Hopefully that is true. I also agree with JayZ. Hugo's is a rare fine-dining class Mexican restuarant. imo, as good as the Rick Bayless mexican restaurants in Chicago, and I'm a huge Rick Bayless fan. It's actually hard for me to admit that I don't think Topolobampa or Frontera Grill are any better than Hugo's. I was disappointed in them, but started with really high hopes
Ate lunch there with the head waiter/wine buyer and 2 bartenders from Fonda San Miguel in Austin. They thought the food was better than their place, which is hard for industry types to admit. And agreed on Frontera, was a little disappointed.
Forget tex-mex... go mex-mex! Pico's on Bellaire has been a favorite of mine for a long time and it's a one-of-a-kind place. http://www.picos.net/ http://www.b4-u-eat.com/houston/restaurants/reviews/rsv0980.asp?bnr=449
Galleria area. I work here in the Galleria. It's my specialty. Good Thai food - Erawan Good "yuppieish" food - Eatzi's. Good hole-in-the-wall deli - Yorktown Deli Good fish tacos - Berryhill Good (but pricey!) Greek food - Yia Yia Mary's Good BBQ - Luling City Market Good Italian - Collina's (Weslayan and Richmond) Fancy Mexican - Canyon Cafe Expensive Option #1 - Post Oak Grill Expensive Option #2 - America's Expensive Option #3 - Hunan Decent Chinese - Cafe Tin Tin Good Middle Eastern Buffet - Dimassi's That should be a pretty good start.
Da Marco - Northern Italian Food so its not your typical italian joint where the dishes are covered with sauces and cheese. Also it was just named one of the countries best 50 restaurants in Gourmet Magazine. http://www.damarcohouston.com/
I ate there with my folks and friends for my Mom's B-Day in July. I had never eaten there before. Excellent food and service. Da Marco is one of the 5 best restaurants I've been to in Houston. Would make an awesome date place for a special occasion. Highly recommended.
Not really in Houston but in that metropolitan area. I went on the Kemah boardwalk at ate at this place that started with B but I cannot remember the name of it. It was great. I think it had a Cajun theme to it, does anybody know what I am talking about? I have also eaten at the Aquarium but it was expensive and not that good for the price paid. Is that place still open?
KEMAH KEMAH KEMAH KEMAH KEMAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's been a few years since I been to H-town and i definitely need to get back there ASAP! I can't even get my damn towns right! Babin's. YES! That was it. What do you mean "think it was"? Did it close down?
hugo's is an excellent choice.... i really want to try fonda san miguel to compare for myself, though. the tequila selection at hugo's is amazing. my parents were in heaven. and i'll throw mark's out there again.
