Whaaaa? (that would be a Moe's reference) Disagree entirely. In fact, I only take women I'm serious about there.
Ninfa's has a great combination of quality and affordability. It's also a Houston original and it serves the Tex-Mex most people want when they come to town. Plus, there's usually one near you. I think people in Houston take Ninfa's for granted sometimes. You could spend a whole lot more to eat at someplace that's only marginally better. Pappadeaux also delivers a lot of bang for your buck. Yes, it's another chain, but the food is excellent. Also for seafood, try the Magnolia Bar & Grill. A great secret in the Galleria area is Alexander The Great, a cozy little greek restaurant. Superior food and service, plus belly dancing on the weekends. For BBQ in the Galleria area, try Luling City Market. Of course, Houston has many great restaurants, but these are the ones around the Galleria that I like best. Places to avoid: Anything on the Kemah Boardwalk (or any restaurant owned by Landry's for that matter) El Tiempo, your source for yuppie Tex-Mex Ragin' Cajun - terrible food
Jack in the Box or... Chinese Cafe on Richmond Ruggles is decent The Fish in downtown is a good sushi restraurant
cmiller....here are some good places in or near the Galleria area: Kenny & Ziggy's - delicatessen El Tiempo - Mexican Arturo's - Italian Sage 400 - Sushi A good reference for Houston restaurants is this website.... http://www.b4-u-eat.com/
My manager had a cockroach in her food there. Will never eat there. I understand that it's hip to hate on Landry's, but since my wife's been working at Saltgrass, I've really enjoyed their food. The steaks aren't bad at all. They have a really good grilled chicken sandwich as well.
Fatty I'm going to have to disagree with the Rainbow Lodge.. That place is very VERY themed oriented and their seafood hasn’t been that great for years.. RL was the hotspot 5 years ago and IMO a place that you should at least see once, but I wouldn’t recommend it on the food only.. RL reminds me of a Rainforest Cafe for adults, all show and no go.. While I think RL is OVERALL one of the better places to go in Houston, I also think the food is lacking IMO.. Words to live by, NEVER GO FOR BRUNCH, IT'S A JOKE.. IMO the best restaurateur in Houston is Michael Cordúa (Americas, Artista, Churrascos, and Amazon Grill) all his restaurants are great IMO and his beef KILLS anything that RL puts on a plate.. His wine tasting dinners are topnotch and while I've only had the brunch at one of his restaurants (Churrascos on Westheimer) and it was unbelievable, the quality and amount of food that is available is more than expected every time I go.. I would also highly recommend Brennan’s, 40 years in Houston and it’s still one of the best IMO.. Brennan’s is a twist on French Creole and their lamb and veal are out of this world.. Brennans also keeps the dessert menu simple, but EVERTHING on it is excellent IMO.. FYI, I hear they have great seafood, but I do not eat the stuff so I cant vouch for it..
I've been meaning to go to Brennans. I'll have to go soon. But I still love RL for its ambience. And I've always enjoyed their food, personally.
I like Ryans STEAKS. It is a restourant that gives many diffirent varytes of steak and other food. I go there every Sunday with my uncle after we watch the Houston Texans and the Houston Astros games. I like it caus I can eat all the macoroni and cheese and steaks and sasages and gravy and breadrolls and fryed chicken and icecream and jello. Also you can DRINK ALL THE POP YOU WHAT? I average 4 or 5 POPS everytime! I also like Ryans steaks caus my name is Ryan and the restourant is named Ryan. I also think Luke's hamburgers is good too! PS ITs not a fancy place and it is a lot of money but it is worth it. I think Ryans steaks is the best caus you can have ALL the food you want. and ALL the POP too!
best reuben in Texas -- and maybe in the US (i know some NY/NJ folks might disagree.) http://www.kahnsdeli.com/ you're welcome.
Absolutely correct. One of the saddest days of my life was taking a girl there only to find out that she hated sourcraut.
Now that you have all these suggestions... go here and find out what customers are saying... http://www.b4-u-eat.com You can also search by zip code for restaurants.
I don't understand Houstonian's fascination with Ninfa's. Can you spend more money and get the same, or worse, food. Yes? But you can also spend less money and get the same, or better, Tex Mex. To me, a lot of Houston Tex Mex falls into the same category foodwise, and the only differentiating factors from one place to another really becomes atmosphere and price. I "guess" Ninfa's is good there, but nothing to get excited about. Da-Glyde, I still think Cordúa's places are good, but both Americas and Churrascos don't really do it for me that much anymore...I'd rather just get the same food considerably cheaper at Amazon Grill. In either case, if you like his style, I again will throw out Hugo's. IMO, this place trumps Cordúa significantly in regards to authentic, high class Central/South American. Also, the bar menu is much better. Another similiar place I like better than Cordúa now is Tila's on Shepherd at the curve. I did have my rehersal dinner at Churrascos at Gessner, though. My wife loves saurecraut...so much that she actually convinced me to get it as a pizza topping the other day. I thought she was nuts, but DAMN! was that good. It still has that unique flavor but isn't nearly as strong because of the cooking and blends so well with the pizza and other toppings.
I forgot about Kahns. I haven't been there in a while, since it seems that every time I eat one of their reubens I have to be taken back to my car on a dolly. But...their reubens are damn good. Kenny & Ziggy's makes a sick one too...open faced, and it looks like a miniature mountain. Can't eat that one either. Oh to be in my twenties again!!
