I don't think these have been listed yet: Portishead - Dummy Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream Breeders - Last Splash A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders, The Low End Theory Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride to the Pharcyde Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) Bjork - Debut, Telegram Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation, The Fat of the Land I'll ignore the more obscure artists, except for these drum & bass classics: Roni Size - New Forms (won the Mercury Prize!) LTJ Bukem - Logical Progression Goldie - Timeless
??? Aphex Twin is a genius producer, but most of his stuff is certainly not considered d&b. He's certainly had a d&b influence, especially in his earlier works. But it would be like calling NIN's 'Perfect Drug' or that one David Bowie album in the mid 90's, Outkast's 'My Favorite Things', Radiohead's 'Idioteque', etc. etc. proper drum & bass songs. Squarepusher on the other hand, has some songs definitely considered d&b, but he's since moved on into much more experimental stuff. This coming from someone heavily involved/networking in the scene for 10+ years. Ask any drum & bass fan the top 3 classic albums that were seminal works and these are pretty much unanimous. Ed Rush & Optical's 'Wormhole' might come close.
Every Stone Temple Pilots album. In my opinion, the best band from the 90's. They are NOT Grunge, contrary to popular belief. You could classify their first CD "Core" as Grunge. If you can't think of any songs by them - trust me, if you were alive during the 90's, you've heard some of their stuff.
also another really good list. i like every single cd on this list except maybe fat of the land. beside that all A+
Since this list heavily leans toward rock, I'll put in some hip hop from that time: Geto Boys - Uncut Dope Dr. Dre - The Chronic Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle Outkast - ATLiens 2PAC - All Eyez on Me Makaveli - 7 Day Theory Notorious BIG - Ready to Die Notorious BIG - Life After Death Jay Z - Hard Knock Life Master P - Ghetto D Lil Keke - The Commission Juvenile - 400 Degrees
Since this list leans heavily towards the crappy rock that was saturating the radio at the time, here is a list of some of the true best rock albums of the 90's... Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth Bruce Dickinson - The Chemical Wedding Pantera - A Fistful of Power Black Label Society - 1919 Eternal Faith No More - Album of the Year Scorpions - Pure Instinct Savatage - Streets: A Rock Opera Savatage - Edge of Thorns Savatage - A Handful of Rain Megadeth - Rust in Peace
Ya def not grunge. They got written off early as "Nirvana-bees" for no damn reason. Clearly a classic rock style band. And now that they are gone they get respect. I have no idea why they cant still be together.
so basically eliminate everything that you don;t agree with *grin* Maybe we should retitle the thread to Music of the 90s that HOTBALLA thinks is kewl Rocket rIver
Man, I cant leave Geto Boys off of this. Geto Boys - We Can't Be Stopped Cypress Hill - Cypress Hill De La Soul - De La Soul Is Dead
i've come to the conclusion that white people listen to stuff i've never heard of. As for Sishir and meowigi, i have no idea, your assimilation is at a level far beyond mine. Thanks for all the songs guys, i saw quite a few more that I liked, so i'll be diggin around for them now. I'll probably start anther thread looking for songs in the vein of "Ooh ahh just a lil bit" and "jellyhead"

No, correction - his taste in music is similar to yours. There are no right or wrong answers on something that is subjective...
