Les is a billionaire?? Wow, I had no idea.
I've heard that JP, surprised and disappointed that the Rocks didn't bite, is frantically taking Epyptian.

A reporter for a local Memphis weekly saw him shopping for clothes at Sears, muttering "damned stupid agent, hell... I'll have to leave the country to find some decent men's clubs... grrrr." The rest was too obscene to print, according to the newsman.

    MemphisX,

Just a few weeks ago, when someone posted a Hou-Mem trade, didn't you say "we don't want anyone from yall's roster"??? (btw, when were you named West's assistant???)

Now Posey is a "hell of a player" and you seem happy to have him.

Quit talking out both sides of your mouth. ;)

    hehe.

I have been silently suspicious that had Posey known we wouldn't have matched that he would have rethought signing an offer sheet with the Memphis.

    "It's business." his agent says.
"Let me handle it" he says
"Les always caves and signs" he told me.

Yup, that's my guess. I bet he's mad as hell and wishes he'd gone with his gut.

    Now, he's just gone. ;)

    MempisX,

He is below average receiving above average pay for his skills.

    - Look no further than his time as a free agent. Not many teams were beating on his door.

    - It could be argued that the Rockets had one of the five worst SF combinations in the NBA, and he was not even the starter if everyone were healthy.

    - This is not sour grapes b/c he did not sign here. It was discussed quite often in this forum before you were a member as to what people felt Posey deserved, or at what point you let him walk. A good percentage did NOT think they should give him the MCE.

    Good luck.

    PS-

To be quite honest, I would take Battier in a trade straight up for Posey. Give us an idea of how good of a player Battier has been for you.

Posey's a good guy. It's too bad he still won't see the playoffs, 5 or 6 seasons into his career. WOW. Francis hasn't made the playoffs in that long, but jeez, Francis has been the 9th seed twice, and has stuck with ONE team.

We lost a good players, but we signed 2 good players. We're making the playoffs, and that's what's important now.

We'll send you a postcard Posey.

Well you guys gave up Kenny Thomas (who is better than Eddie Griffin) for him because you knew Thomas was going to cost you and you thought Posey would come cheaper. Jerry West says he is worth $4.9 million, I will go with West until somebody proves him wrong or can give me an example of a time in which he overpaid for a player.

On Battier : Early last season Battier really struggled. His shot was horrible, defense was spotty, and he turned the ball over. About 3 weeks with Hubie and he started looking like the Battier that led Duke. He was almost automatic as a spot up 3pt shooter from either corner which really helped our spacing, he locked down SFs and SGs(with the exception of the truly elite scorers), and he was a big time leader. IMO he and JWill were the co-MVPs.

FWIW, I think everyone is going to be shocked by the season that Mike Miller is going to have this season. He is going to have the Steve Francis green light and is going to be the 1st option. Look for him to score 22+ per game. The Grizz will be exciting to say the least and if we can get someone to grab some defensive boards, we will challenge for the #8 spot.

Most of ya'll know the only reason we are in a better position than Memphis is we lucked into Yao right? The are still receovering from past mistakes, but they are also the ones who moved up for Gasol while we moved up for Eddie Griffin. Also, when not stuck with the first pick we have used mid 1st round picks for Boki and Collier and released two 2nd round pick players (Langhi/Collier) who we gave up first round picks for. Really, except from really lucking into Yao (we likely were going to waiste a pick on Dunleavy) and kind of similarly lucking into Francis (well we worked a little for that one--but it still was kind of handed to us) our outlook would be among the worst in the league.

Basically the Rockets have handed great gifts the last 5 years and the brass had made very poor moves in supporting them and now over $ with a City bought arena coming let our 4th best player in a desperate position (SF) go over a few million per year (like maybe 5 if lux tax is employed when you consider the differnce between what we tendered Posey and when we had to match).

It is kind of funny all the good will thrown at Les/Rockets after they won the lottery, pretty much twice in 5 years. To me it is like being blessed with all the athletic gifts in the world but sitting on your ass with it so in the end you are just better than average--and it is hard for me to get jazzed for a player like that or team going in that direction.

Well we should at least have proactive to see about a mutually agreeable figure (18/5 years or 25 mil/6 years?). That is the sad thing is the player/agent/our team were not proactive and didn't snip this in the bud. Both Posey and the Rockets lost because of it--it is yet to be seen who lost more.

Number of faults in your logic here. He is a below average starter, but an above average NBA player (remember only like 35-40% of league players start). Also, the MLE Memphis signed him for is the average of all NBA players--and this includes nonstarters as well as rookie contracts that don't reflect market value (e.g., we only pay like 3 mil for Yao instead of like 10+).

If we matched Posey we would have gotten an above average player at an average contract, or a below average starting swingman at a far below average contract for a veteran starting swingman.

    Read closely...

If Rice were not injured, Posey would not have started.

That is an absolute false statement.
