What do you guys shoot, typically? Also, what are some courses you like? Personally, I like good value for my Golfing dollar. I enjoy playing: Roy Kizer Jimmy Clay Riverside River Place Circle C Plum Creek Lion's Municipal Pine Forest DD
pretty much all these and a lot of Lago Vista and Bluebonnet. Isn't Clay almost finished? I also heard they made a pitch and putt course out there.
Not sure about Clay, but a pitch and put is a great way to play fast and improve your game. 60-70% of shots are within 100 yards of the green. I played Bandera yesterday it was hot, but a pretty neat course. DD
Love the Austin Muni's....especially Kizer and Mo Willy. I played Shadow Glen (Manor) recently. It was pretty nice. Star Ranch ain't bad either.
I'd play Circle C if I didn't have to worry about my car being broken into and being mugged on the back nine.
Ah... those are courses in the Austin area. I don't have tons of money to spend on Golf. When I play I'll find a deal at Bear Creek, or I'll play a muni like Hermann Park. Houston munis suck.
Holy CRAP !! That is pretty much exactly what I started doing, half back swing, stable lower body and drive through the ball. I have never hit straighter in my life, at least consistently, although I admit I was a bit shorter on the shots, but not that much shorter. I think I was already gripping the club like the natural golf....I am going to get a Natural Golf lesson and see what happens. DD
I've really liked practicing a drill called the "L-to-L drill" pull your backswing back, but don't do a full backswing. pull it back until the club shaft points straight down to the ground and is perpendicular to your arm. the club and your arm should shape the letter L. Then smoothly swing through the ball, and follow through with the club head pointing up and the shaft again pointing to the ground. the club and your arm should again shape the letter L (only backwards). Give this a shot next time you're at the range.
It's far easier than the traditional golf swing. I investigated it because of lower back ailments; my friend who was one of my golfing buddies and also a teaching pro thought it would help me. After a couple of lessons, I was as good at Natural Golf as i had been at traditional golf. Length. Accuracy. Everything. It is hard not to lapse back to traditional swing principles, though, so you have to be focused. Once you have your stance correct, NG has one motion: pick the club up with your dominant forearm and chop downward. It's amazing.
You ' natural swing' guys need to read the strange story of Mo Norman: http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Archives/CA_Show_Article/0,2322,609,00.html I've read a better version than this, describing him as the idiot savant of golf, not nearly as sane as this artilcle makes him sound. But this is all I could find on google.
I love golf, never had one lesson and don't read the magazines but I just love it. I guess in high school I would shoot in the low 80s, there was a point in time where I would play 5-6 times a week and I would break 80 most of the time but now I only get out a few times a year and I am lucky to break 90.
Hmmmmm after more research, it seems I am using elements of his methods and elements of a traditional swing. DD
Someone has written a book on him; I got it and read it about the time my interest in his swing technique peaked. It was a very interesting tale. If he hadn't had the personal challenges he did, I wonder how far he could have gone. According to this book, he used to lose tourneys on purpose on the back nine if he didn't feel up to accepting the accolades of the victor....
