    This is true...

But these guys are all about the money, even the commentators and I don't blame them one bit...

If I were Rickie or Dustin and i'm on the tail end of my career and someone wanted to pay me that I kind of money.. I would take it also....

I don't have to practice all day, work on my game and I get paid millions of dollars.. This is a no brainer....

But at the same time, I don't think they should be awarded points...

Also I think the pga is wrong for saying they are banned.... They should say hey, if you want to go to the LIV then do so, but you don't have a guaranteed spot and you will lose your card... You can come back... BUT!!!! you will have to join the Korn Ferry and earn your card back...

Nothing wrong with individual contractors looking out for themselves.

So LIV is the MLS of golf. Stars on the backside of their careers looking for that last payoff with little to absolutely no pressure to perform. Phil can go out and shoot 3 days of 110...and still get paid. They absolutely have that right and I'm not blaming them for making that choice. But the whining that the PGA was mean to them when they made this decision is at bit much. You're getting paid, in some cases, in the hundreds of millions of dollars to play exhibitions for the loaded Saudi's. You made your choice. Own it. You're Brittany Spears playing a 12-yr old's birthday party in Riaydh.

They should not be awarded points when the tournaments are not equal. 3 rounds vs 4. A cut vs no cut.

The PGA said they are suspended. Not banned.

    Yep... You are dead on!!!!

    HOT OFF THE PRESS!!!!!!

    https://www.si.com/golf/news/liv-golfs-future-plans-include-relegation-qualifying-tournament
Exclusive: LIV Golf's Future Plans Include Relegation, Qualifying Tournament

So basically if i'm someone without an EXCLUSIVE contract and i'm at the bottom 4 i'm S.O.L... I can't play in the LIV... Can't play PGA and can't go to the Korn Ferry... At least if I get bumped from the PGA, I can go back to the Korn Ferry to earn my card back...

I have largely stayed out of this thread, but I want make a few points. Those people trying to demonize the PGA tour are flat wrong. Most PGA tour players are not unhappy with the tour. Some of the players that have jumped to the Saudi tour have a few personal grievances with the PGA tour, but most PGA tour players are not unhappy with the PGA tour. Some of the players that have jumped to the Saudi tour can best be described as cheaters, racists, malcontents, or otherwise just unpopular with many other tour players. Of course some players are well liked, but have jumped to the Saudi league purely for the easy money.

The LIV tour is really the TRUMP TOUR. A lot of people don’t want to come out and say it, but Trump is mixed up in all this. The Saudi tour is a gift from MBS to old friend Donald Trump. Trump has been furious with the PGA tour since it pulled a tour event away from Trump owned Doral golf club after Trump was elected president. Then the PGA of America pulled the 2022 PGA Championship away from a Trump course in New Jersey. It has been reported that Trump’s golf courses have lost hundreds of millions of dollars through the years. Now the Saudi tour is coming to the rescue and will be playing tournaments at some Trump owned courses. Trump is loving this. Trump makes money off these tournaments and gets to stick it to the PGA tour and PGA of America.

PGA Tour wins first legal battle against LIV Golf as players are denied restraining order, kept out of FedEx Cup Playoffs

"A judge in U.S. District Court denied a motion Tuesday afternoon to three LIV Golf members seeking to participate in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, giving the PGA Tour the first victory in the legal battle between the tour and the Saudi-backed circuit."

Lots of big changes announced today by the PGA tour. This is not a surprise, as the PGA tour as been in almost constant change since it was formed so many years ago. But, it is fair to say that we have never seen such radical change like this in PGA tour history. Some of these changes were already in the works, but the threat of LIV certainly sped things up.

I won’t get into all the changes that have been announced, that can be found online. But, these changes will benefit the top players far more than it will the average player in my opinion. That’s not surprising as the tour has been moving in that direction for years.

This is the top players in the game taking firm control of the tour. The PGA tour has always belonged to the players, but now the top players are really calling the shots.

Purses will increase pretty dramatically in what they call “elevated” events to at least $20 million. These events will probably have smaller fields with no cut. Players will be required to play at least 20 PGA events per year. The goal is to have the top players competing against each other more often to generate more interest in the tour.

Some people are wondering where the extra money for purses will be coming from. My guess, and this is only a guess at this point. But, I suspect money raised at tournaments that usually goes to charity, will now go to the players. At least I would suspect a much larger percentage of money raised will go to players. Also sponsors will be asked to donate more.

I also think that some tournaments that are not designated as elevated events may just go away, making the season shorter. It may be difficult to find corporate sponsors if a tournament has a weak field, or if the corporate sponsor can’t advertise their involvement in the tournament as a charitable endeavor that helps the community.

Once again, many changes are happening and all details haven’t emerged. But, the top players appear to benefit greatly from these changes.

Also, a new and interesting Monday night stadium golf event will be starting in 2024. This event is being spearheaded by Tiger and Rory McIlroy in conjunction with the PGA tour. Details at https://tglgolf.com/

So, it will be interesting to see how this all works out, and if it is enough to fight off LIV. But, lots of new ways for the top players to make a lot more money.

PGA vs LIV is the new Coke versus Pepsi....

PGA lost.. They may win the court battle.. but they lost... They are basically the LIV now....

Wrong. The PGA tour has lost a few players, and that’s it. The war has just begun. The PGA tour still has by far the best players and most of the golf world is against LIV. Furthermore, the four major championships really don’t want LIV players and will probably make it difficult for them to qualify. As soon as the Saudi money goes away, then LIV goes away. How long will LIV survive, no one really knows. I feel very confident the PGA tour will win this battle in the long run.

I do agree that the PGA tour has had to in some ways remake itself to resemble the LIV tour. That’s a big win for the top players for sure. Big prize money in small field events. This all benefits the top players. I really don’t like these changes, but I understand why it was done. There has always been a power struggle between the very top elite players and the other players in professional golf. LIV golf has given the elite players that have remained with the PGA tremendous leverage and they are now going to benefit greatly. So, the real winners in all this up to this point are the very top end players on either tour.

I never said they didn't have the best players.... Never stated anything that you have stated above...

my comment is about this... I was all for the PGA until they gave in like Coke and decided to change.. Now the PGA will look like hypocrites... Just as the NBA did with ABA and the Coke with Pepsi... Amazingly that Both NBA and Coke had their opponents against the ropes and then they got scared and changed....

My apologies. I didn’t really understand your post. I’m a little too close to all this and maybe a little too emotional. My father is a former tour player, and is still a PGA of America member, so I’ve always followed the tour very closely.

Yes, I hate to see the changes that are coming to the tour. It’s all about money and greed and I don’t think it’s good for the sport overall. I’m strongly opposed to tournaments that are not full field events. Some of the best moments in the sport have been when the long shot is going up against one of the elite players. We may not see much of that in the future.
