Word policing does somewhat hinder free speech but shouldn't you want to not offend your fellow man. What happens when someone on national t.v decides to offend a whole race with no repercussions. Well more and more people will find it acceptable to follow suit.

Do you believe blacks have no reason to feel how they feel?

she apologized for an accidental misuse of the word. Her intentions were not for that to be taken literally.

If her intentions were for that to be taken literally than that is different.

Tiger thinks its a non-issue, so should some of you

He doesnt speak for blacks as a whole. Believe me.

    Its a misuse truthfully.

Tiger Woods of course wouldnt take it personal because he doesnt truly claim to be black. Everyone else puts him into that category.

Yet and still, she needs to use better judgement next time.

Decides. That's the difference. It's about intent.

offending a whole race but not representing a whole race...

Sure they can have a reason, but it shouldn't excuse people for knee-jerk reactions and accusations.

Well Meowgi, we're going to go round in circles with this. So I agree to disagree with you and leave it be.

We do agree she shouldnt be fired. It was a poor judgement I hope she never intended to use to offend.

Has anyone here ever done any extemporaneous public speaking?

If you've ever done any at all, you have had an Oh ***** moment.

Besides, she's just a touch past masculine on the hot chick-o-meter and nobody on this board but me ever even watches the Golf Channel anyway; so ya'll leave Kelly alone.

"We were trying to convey the controversial issue with a strong and provocative graphic image"

The dude really doesn't get Golfweek if he thinks they should ever do anything controversial. He probably was in the wrong job.

For those of you who don't know, Golfweek is sort of the magazine of record for golf, mostly just who won what around the world and who ranks where.
Golf nerds only! Not nearly as topical as Golf Magazine or Golf Digest.

Ugh ... suppose someone made a "joke" about a Jew, suggesting he should tossed into a gas chamber. Not a big deal, right? I mean, it's not like only Jews were killed using a gas chamber, historically.

Just want to make sure we're on the same page, here.

Why is it that anyone gives two flips?

If someone says something offensive about my race do you think I care in the slightest? Absolutely not. It's about time everyone realized we aren't 8 years old anymore. Grow up.

I don't believe desensitizing yourself to historical or social wrongs is a sign of maturity. I guess you'd be the first in line to get a lobotomy if you were told it'd make everyone grow up.

Then again, I'm greatly humbled that a self described mature person as yourself would even care in the slightest to reply to my offhand remark.

I haven't had any problems getting by in life. I've never had an opportunity to succeed denied to me by the "white man" despite the color of my skin.

Historical wrongs are just that, historical. It's good to know history but to get bent out of shape because of something someone says in the present serves no purpose.

Are you saying there isn't any more racism? Racism is part of this nation's past?

Of course there's racism. There always will be. Some people just love to hate other people.

Anyone who would even try to connect the type of racism that occurs today with that of 40 years ago is doing a great disservice to anyone who had to live through racism unimaginable by today's standards.

Obviously it has changed, but that doesn't mean it should be ignore at present, or that we shouldn't be sensitive the problems of the fairly recent past in those regards.
