You can never truly know intent because people can lie, that's why people are asked to be racially sensitive. When a white person calls a black person the N-word, I dont know his intent. He could mean it in a non racial derogatory way but history assumes he does not.

    Donkey Magic:

I associate holocaust with Jews because that is the first and truly only event I've known it to be associated with.

Same for lynching. They used to lynch white people who committed crimes. Based on T.V. Movies. But Emmitt Till was lynched, Rosewood Victims were lynched. The young civil rights men coming from the north were lynched and that was two white men and a black.

Check out the states pgabriel put before us. Blacks have had the majority of lynchings. Research it and I bet more Blacks will tell you that lynching has a deep rooted negative meaning to them than whites.

Argue this point with my grandfather who saw friends and family lynched and has the scars to prove it.

U damn right I'm sensitive to this.

going back to my original post in this thread, the point i was making is that people are sensative to different things. hence, your signature about nasa. just like in the thread in hangout about the nerdy chics and someone made a negative point about nasa and you acted all sensative and had to talk about the dude's mom. but its okay when it happens to you.

funny, i was looking on this web site about lynchings, they have a bunch of photos with a history of the photo. my grandfather was born in 1909 and one photo was in his town of a black man accused of assaulting a white woman in 1911.

the true irony is that this is what probably most black men were lynched for. what's tiger's wife's race. just saying. actually i'm kidding, but i digress.

Has it ever benefitted a race that has been abused and discriminated against to ignore the past?

What is the point of that?

Nobody is saying the woman was a racist. But it was her ignorance of the past that allowed her to use that word. Further ignoring doesn't seem like a good idea.

So you assume intent because people can lie? Wow.

Based on tv movies, what are you talking about?

Argue it with other races who family lynched. U tell them yours is more important.

It isn't more important, but it is historically and comparitively less significant in terms of sheer numbers.

    For what it's worth:

    Tiger Woods is not Black

His mother was full blooded Thai, that probably makes him Thai by plurality.
His father I believe is on record as being of mixed race; Black, Chinese and Cherokee among others Hence his Cablinasian decription of himself.

I believe even the state of Louisiana has dropped the legal definition of black as 1/8th African heritige.

(are ther any Thai hanging atrocities?)

OK back to your pointless bickering.

Meowgi, Its all good. I'm one to respect a person's opinion, that's what this country is about. Never said my family was important. I want you to understand why blacks are more sensitive to certain words. If you dont understand.....well its all good. Cuz unless your opinion makes or breaks my life I really cant trip.

    P. Gab:

    Some people will never understand.
Some people dont want to understand.
    Some people refuse to understand.
That's why I understand not to argue the point.

You're wrong. He was taken #1 overall in the racial draft by the blacks.

The thing is if she would had said "shot" instead of lynched nobody would have cared. But because of a certain word that some black people think belong exclusively to them was used people are calling for her job and labeling her a racist. It's a joke.

No, I'm not really anything besides a white native Houstonian and Texan. Yippee!

And when I hear the word lynch, this is what I think of.

    NSFW.

Well that makes me understand much more why you dont understand it. That's no slight on you but i can't truly expect you to feel me on it.
But we don't feel its exclusive to us, it just holds a stronger meaning. Like a certain word you remember from a lost loved one could hold a stronger meaning to you than someone else. That's where the sensitivity lies.

I truly believe people like you and I have to really sit down and talk and discuss race relations and open our minds up to each others opinion to truly understand and better race relations.

It wouldn't have happened had she not been so ignorant of history and used that word.

It isn't a big deal to you, because the word doesn't have special significance to you, and was never used to intimidate you, or keep you oppresed. So it seems like you don't see a reason to try and understand anyone else's perspective.

For others obviously the history of the word is more significant and important, as it should be. The fact that so many people don't understand the history and meaning behind the word only shows that it still needs to have special attention brought to it.

Hopefully people's understanding will evolve eventually to where it isn't such a big deal, but the ignorance involved shows we still need to learn the lessons.

But it should be a held against those who don't see it like you. It goes both ways. Because I see the word in a different, or larger context doesn't make me anything. My job shouldn't be threatened over it. Words mean different things to different people and you can not please them all. I despise word policing.
