LOL! How very true. At least let us dream! Truthfully, I don't think G.S. would EVER make this trade either. Oh well.... ------------------ "There is no controlling legal authority", - Al Gore, upon discovery that he clearly broke campaign fundraising laws.
Indeed this ludicrous trade would rank up there with the Mitch Richmond for Billy Owens swap, the Penny and 3 picks for C. Webb, and the Sprewell for nothing trades. Coming from GS, this proposal does not sound that out of whack when you think about it. Drew will share time at PG with the oft injured Mookie Blaylock. Walt would start at SF, and, well, Cato (maybe) would be their center. The reason I am skeptical about this deal is because they could get much better players from other teams such as Portland for Jamison rather than a trade exception, and marginal talent (save for Kelvin). Remember, GS gave up Vinsanity to get Jamison and cash. It will be a shame if all they have to show for drafting Vince is Bryce Drew, Gizzard, and Collier, or a lazy Kelvin Cato. But, then again, stranger things have happened in GS. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater

Oeilpere has been around forever here, as he used to post under another alias. He is as reliable as they come, and was one of the two posters who broke the Francis trade last year. I can assure you, he is not making this up, and his sources aren't either. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? "one of the Rocket Centers" I'm still wondering about this one. If it ain't Hakeem, nor Collier (can't be traded till Dec), then it HAS to be Cato! just wondering, is Pig a possibility? or is he a free agent? or can it REALLY be Hakeem? ------------------ Dream's team....still! as long as one of those rockets centers means collier or cato we should do it. but if its olajuwon i will have to decline, but we cant trade collier right now, can we? ------------------ johnny "red" kerr:i'm glad the bulls did'nt draft steve francis. dan roan: why!!!!! johnny red kerr:because he would forever be compared to michael jordan.
Um, how do we know this is Pops again? I must have missed it. University Blue, Blocking shots is part of defense, but people always seem to have misconceptions when one says that guy blocks shots. They instantly think that they are awesome defenders. This is not always the case, and is not so with Cato. Anyway, I agree that Jamison could turn into one of the better small forwards in the game, so I wouldn't count on the trade. Some of you may bring up the Francis trade as an example, but you have to remember that 1) Jamison actually likes it in GS and 2) this trade is even more lopsided. At least Dickerson has some amazing potential. I don't see any of the guys we would be giving up turning into stars. Who else in GS is overpaid? Maybe they'll put another contract on our backs. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Pressbox/6544" TARGET=_blank>Houston Rockets Space Center- Not just another ClutchCity.NET clone. You can see that it is Popeye just from reading his posts. Hardly anybody else has comparable sources and nobody else can phrase his posts like Popeye.
Wait a minute - I thought we were still trading Drew for Tim Duncan. When's that supposed to go down again???? Seriously, we got Mo Taylor in a steal. There's no reason to get greedy. Jamison's not coming here, and it doesn't matter, because we don't have enough shots for him anyway. ------------------
It CAN'T be Collier because of the trade deadline date. It CAN'T be Hakeem OR Cato unless GS want to cough up another $6M-$15M in player(s). Unless the later is true, the only centers we have are free agents who we could sign and trade. How many players does GS currently have under contract? ------------------
Wow. Wow. Wow. Quick points on those who feel Cato would be risky to give up: So, you want shotblocking? Umm, k. There's a guy that'll go in the 20s range named Ken Johnson that blocked over 5 shots a game last year. No offense, mediocre rebounder, but dude can reject stuff like crazy. Jamison also gives you your rebounding to make up for Mo. And Dampier is a pretty nice backup center. The Rockets would be insane not to do this, Cato or no Cato. oileypee: My guess is more players from GS are included. I used http://members.home.net/nbasalaries/ for data, and also note that Dampier is 2nd year BYC (interesting enough, he just turned it, too). Golden State can take back 115%+100K of 6.8875, or roughly 8 mill (Houston must give ~6.8-8 mill in players to GS). Houston must give away a total of 8.29 (exception can and likely will be included, as we still have a piece of it.) Now as for the center, this is the tricky part. Foyle just got a big contract, and presumably would be the center, right? Fortson also got a nice contract, and he's a pure PF. Perhaps they think this is Hughes' team? Cato's contract is longterm, so it wouldn't make much sense, plus it's BYC, complicating things further. He's also somewhat similar to Foyle. Collier would make sense, but he's not that high potential. I suppose he'd work though, but by what we know, he can't be traded for awhile. By that time, the exception is expired. As for a quick little proposal based around Opie's hot stuff: Dampier+Jamison for Walt+Bryce+Rogers+Pick(s)+Cash+.66 mill of exception Houston trades away: 8.29 mill (7.63 mill in players) Golden State trades away: 8.29 mill Houston can take back: 8.29 mill+15%+100K m Golden State can take back: 6.8875 mill+15%+100K(up to 8.1375 mill in players) Houston takes back: 8.29 mill Golden State takes back: 7.63 mill IT WORKS. Then, the 2 sides could be sneaky, and on December 15, 2000, or whatever day Collier can be traded, Collier to Golden State for the exception (if we add in another .5 mill) or, for a 1 mill cheapo they don't want, or for a minimum salary player+that .66. Now, the thought of this gives me chills: Cato/Hakeem/Dampier Taylor/Thomas Jamison/Langhi/Bullard Anderson/Mobley Francis/Norris Honestly, I'm in disbelief, but please Opie, prove me wrong. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
Hey, havin' a Team with Francis, Mobes, Anderson, Mo, Dream AND Antawn would KICK ASS! but how in the world would these share playing time and shot attempts?? their stats won't be very impressive even though the team would kick ass. just like the The Trail Blazers last year. Francis too probably won't improve his scoring so much. His assist average will improve though. ------------------ Dream's Team....Still! Man!! If this is for real, We just move ROCKETS to the 4th slot in the Western Conference playoff team! So, watch out KOOOBEE! GOOD THREAD! ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
I think you guys are selling Dampier short. He would be a VERY nice addition to the team. He's just what the Rockets need at the center position, a good rebounder, good offensive player, and very good defensively. The only bad thing about him is he is injury prone but like Cato isn't? Dampier could definitely be the rockets center of the future. ------------------ You ain't gotta like me, you just mad cause I tell it how it is, and you tell it how it might be.
If this were anyone but OP, I'd would probably begin a longwinded rant about bringing flat out stupidity to the forum... Of course Golden State would on consider this if it were secretly owned by one of Les Alexander's underlings... that and they just drank a fifth of vodka. However, I find myself feeling lightheaded... ------------------ WEBMASTER of SaveOurCuttino.Com "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
Although I seem to be in the minority here, I think this is a stupid trade for Houston. First of all, Cato is a very valuable commodity in the league. There aren't many 7foot centers who can play team defense and shut down the lane like he has shown many flashes of. His individual D against shaq should also be noted, as well as the fact that the Blazers used to specifically play him just to guard shaq. Offensively, he obviously can't do much other than dunk, but he is a good finisher around the rim and he does shoot a respectable ~71% from the line. Houston should give him at least until the all-star break to see if he can become consistent and work hard on the boards. As for Jamison, he's a 'tweener coming off a severe knee injury. As a SF, he can't shoot consistently past 15ft, can't make a 3, and shoots 60% from the line. Sure he has star potential, but so did Joe Smith. I think Walt is a better fit for this team, even with his inconsistency and at age 31. Dampier could be a very good backup C, I remember watching him outplay Hakeem a couple seasons ago in at least 3 games...he is a tenacious rebounder. But he also shoots 50% from the line and is damaged goods. Houston should stand pat (other than unloading Drew) till training camp. IF they must trade for Jamison, I'd rather see KT go cuz Cato will be very difficult to replace. ------------------
The ONLY reason Dave Cowens does this deal, is to make a run at Webber next season. Other than that, there is NO WAY Cowens is this stupid. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
