Darryn, u need to step away from the crack u are smoking. GS wont be competing for the eight seed. Not that I hate the Warriors or anything (and I think Jamison and Hughes are the real deal), but they just dont have enough fire power to even comepete with Rocks, Soncis, Kings, and Mavs. I dont think they can even compete with Grizz or even Clipps. ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. You need a little less hype in your life, and a little more information. The Warriors lost more key players for more games than anyone in the league, and won 19 games. The Grizzlies' key players barely missed any games, and they won 20 games. The Clippers won only 14. And now the W's supposedly can't compete with them??? If all teams are reasonably healthy, the W's will have two proven 20-ppg scorers (Jamison/Hughes) for a full season rather than half each, and a proven defensive center who missed all but 1 month last year (after not missing a single game the previous 2 years). That sounds like some seriously added talent. All the Grizzlies are adding is one talented-but-raw rookie, while the Clips added several raw young players but lost their top 2 scorers. IMHO, the Warriors have a good chance to win 35 or more games this year. The Grizz won't get more than 25-30 wins, and the Clips even fewer than that. Write it down. ------------------
Now I might be mistaken because I did not follow the Warriors very closely but didn't Houston lose more key players than Golden State. We lost Hekeem for most of the season and we lost Sir Charles for almost the whole season. Nothing against Golden State but those two players were more key than any player on the Warriors because we were competing for the playoffs. Not to mention the few games that Franchise missed or how about the chunk of games that Cato missed. Everybody on the Rockets but Shandon and Cuttino missed a chunk of the games due to injuries and Cuttino missed games due to the birth of his baby. My point being Houston was probably the most injured team in the NBA last season. ------------------
yeah right. larry hughes is a franchise player. HAHA. remember at the dunk contest, when the commentators were like, "check out this new young talented player larry hughes". and he didnt even make one dunk!! he sucks. and he sucks in real games too. ------------------ Starting at shortstop, for the Houston Astros, Nomar Garciaparra.
The Sixers leaked the rumor "we think Hughes might be better than Iverson someday" last year. The Warriors bought it... for what pick? Certainly Courtney Alexander and a veteran would have been more fruitful. Who here thinks that Cuttino wouldn't be as good as or better than Larry Hughes if he had permission to jack up 25 spg at a 40% clip? ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other [This message has been edited by Achebe (edited September 08, 2000).]
What is all this fuss about? Jamison aint an all star and will never be an all star. If GS is building their team around him, god help them. I just can't see Rudy trading a player who can't shoot for his position (not unless GS throws in a whole bunch of unconditional first round picks). Seriously, a 3 with no J is completely worthless in Rudy's spread O. For those of you who say Jamison is a 4, there are no extra minutes at the 4 with our current roster. MoMoney will get 30-35 minutes and KennyT will get the rest. Both of these players can hit a 15-20 ft jump shot, so that would make Jamison third in the depth chart. Hey Darynn, the Rocks won't make this trade, since we are not that STUPID. I would to sincerely apologize for posting one message with 5 paragraphs instead of 5 separate messages. ------------------
Achebe, you are probably right. These talks for Jameson probably died with the signing of Mo Taylor. Jameson can swing between the 3 and 4, and would have been a better fit for the Rockets before Taylor was signed. ------------------
1. I'm happy with this trade not happening. I have never had a good vibe about Jamison. 2. I thought this thread was dead several pages ago, but since it's not, I wanted to get in on the action and post something that will further my long, slow crawl towards membership. ------------------ "Texas remains our largest unfrozen state"
Achebe, that is by far the most sensible, most profound post in this long-ass thread. Shame on you! ------------------ I need a new signature. 302
Thanks Lynus, by the way. I concede the point, so now I'm just going to be bitter like they are. I'm going back to work *yecchh*. ------------------ Why don't you guys go down to the gym and pump each other
Swopa -- Pardon my ignorance (and unwillingness to wade through 7 pages of GS/Hou nonsense) but you wouldn't happen to be a Warriors fan, would you? Achebe -- I'm going to eat your children. ------------------ It doesn't matter if I have a signature!
Okay now this thread should be closed. When it comes to people eating children its no FUn ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. Stupid threads are not FUN! 2. RocketSiv, Dampier missed one fewer game than Barkley, Jamison missed one more game than Hakeem, and Donyell Marshall missed one more game than Cato. On top of that, Chris Mills missed 60 games, Terry Cummings missed 60 games, John Starks missed 15 games (before being traded), Jason Caffey missed 11 games, and Mookie Blaylock missed 9 games ... and that's eight of the W's projected nine-man rotation at the start of the year. So, yes, the Warriors were hit harder by injuries (though Houston was undeniably hit hard as well). Stone Cold, please don't bring up painful subjects. ------------------
WHEN WILL THIS THREAD DIE??? Swopa, how many replies do you have here? Admit it - you're not really a warriors fan. You're just trying to pad your stats. ------------------
I am a Rockets fan 1st but also like GS better than most other West teams (lived in the Bay Area, always liked Jamison), thus I believe I can provide a pretty balanced view of things. There is absolutely no comparison between the Rockets and Warriors in current skill or potential. Sorry to say this, but the Warriors will be at the bottom of the barrel and likely stay that way. And unlike in a beer barrel, this is not the most redeemable place. The Warriors had a decent year 2 years ago, but that was because an aging veteran core of leaders (Starks, Cummings, Mills, Marshall) formed a strong defense that worked pretty well in a shortened season and before the rule changes. Comparing even the Warriors to say the Grizzlies is no contest. Rahim and MD are better collectively than the Warriors best two young players already, and we haven't even talked about potential all-stars in two other positions (Bibby and Swift). Dallas has a better nucleus with a better track record to show for it as well. The only Western team in just as sorry as shape as the Warriors is LAC, though I am not much sold on the McNuggets future either despite a couple of decent players. On the brighter side, a couple of other Western teams could be passed by GS in a couple of years, and they are Sac (if they lose Webber) and the Jazz (w/Karl & Stockton gone). Granted to the Warriors any crumbs are wanted, but the truth is that this may happen only because those teams will out pathetic the Warriors. The future of pretty much all the rest of the Western playoff teams and Vanc, Dallas and the Rockets are light years ahead of the Warriors. I don't know how anyone could seriously debate this. In fact as a betting man, I would put my money on the Rockets winning a title by 2006 over any Western team who doesn't have Shaq or Duncan. ------------------ Elie buried the clutch 3 that would launch the Rockets to their second title run, driving a stake through the onwatching Suns fans hearts that will forever be etched in the dry Arizona landscape.
