Or Popeye/Oeilpere could return from his Labor Day vacation, click on his computer, say, "Holy s***!", laugh his ass off, mutter under his breath, "Better than I expected," then continue the thread with, "Hey, guys and gals, I'm just the messenger, don't shoot me. I've been trying to check with my source but he's been out of town, too, so as soon as I can..." ------------------
Damn you people! I read every one of these meaningless posts, thinking Oily or Clutch or someone reliable had something pertinent to add. I'll never get those minutes of my life back! That being said, I'll continue this post so that others can share the misery I've endured. Thank you. ------------------ Jazzkiller
good point slcrocket. by posting in this thread, you ensure at least 2 hits for clutch: the thread and then 'the number 6'. ------------------
Funny,,,I always thought jumping at headfakes is baaad. What you say there is the very reason I say Cato is a bad shot-blocker? Great shotblockers do not jump until the opposing player does. Cato simply falls for way too many headfakes for me to call him a good shotblocker, much less compare him to Hakeem.
Heypartner, I think what Tiburon was trying to say was that Cato is a quick leaper like Dream was back in the day. Dream also used to go for head fakes all the time when he was new to the league. He often got into foul trouble because of that in the early years. He also had the ability to recover quickly and explode after going for a head fake. I don't know if Cato has that ability yet, but the potential is certainly there. Shot blocking is all about timing anyway, but if you have that extra explosiveness which Cato apparently has you can compensate for a timing weakness. I agree with you though, Cato should not be compared to Dream just yet. In fact no one comes close but if Cato gets remotely close, Boy would we have something. ------------------
I wonder if oeli messes up some of these trades by reporting them here? ------------------ Fun Police Says: 1. Stupid threads are not FUN! 2. The other thing Cato does wrong, which Dream perfected, is conserving motion when guarding the lane. Cato moves too much in the lane, thus is out of position for a block. I agree with the explosiveness, but the fundamentals are just not there at all. That's why we argue about his ability. The Cato-pros can only cite a few games, because he can have a good game with his explosiveness alone. The Cato-cons simply expect more out of that explosiveness. Cato may never learn what Dream and Garnett have perfected, economy of motion to go with explosiveness. Cato may never cover the same amount of ground that Dream and Garnett can. If Mookie is icky, is Moochie itchy? Could Sleepy be opie? Sleepy Floyd = oeilpere. 10 pages, it could happen.
They just blasted this deal on 610AM....they also said good bye to the exception this off season. ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
610 (ie, John and Lance) doesn't know everything. They blasted the deal because of cap implications, which is poor logic. If we give up the Wizard and Cato, and took back Jamison and Dampier, we wouldn't really be gaining much salary, and we would be improving our talent base while still leaving room under the cap for CWebb or Finley next season. They also didn't take into account the fact that Jamison can play the 3 - they considered him just another PF. That said, I don't think this deal is going down. No word from OP since page 1 or 2, I think, means bad news. ------------------
I don't think Cato is in the deal. I think it is Washington. They get salary cap relief sooner with Walt and Rogers versus dampier I think. With Jamison likely leaving soon, why not get something for him. ------------------ "You've got 6 fouls, use them well" -Derrick Coleman
I think that Jamison just wants to get out, just like Pippen did to us, and GS are probably trying to stay low key and get something for Jamison instead of losing him later to free agency. I really doubt Rudy is going to trade Cato anyways, I see Cato as one of the untradeables. (Francis,Mobley,Anderson,Mo,Cato,Langhi,Hakeem) If this is really the case, Rudy may be able to pull something more out of his magic hat!! Remember in the first post, the center was not named. If it was someone like Cato, the name for sure would have been mention as the biggest part of the deal going from Houston's part. I don't think Cato would be left to speculation that easily.tha would have to be made clear!!! Of course this may have been done to get other team involved for GS. But, GS is interested because we have many guys that can contribute to many teams now, they may not be the top guys but they are solid with some potential and most importantly stability(which is hard to find in this league anymore). Rudy has always tried to obtained personal with these characteristics. ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. Hakeem..
Don't listen to Lance and Granato, especially Granato. Am I the only one that heard their dumbass ramble this morning about mascots? Those guys are sports reporters, not analysts. ------------------
Yeah, and your dumba$$ had to go and throw it back off!! Don't take it seriously! ------------------ I am the founding member of the Butt-Nekkid Party! White House here we come!
I think the Jamison trade proposed here makes about as much sense to the Warriors as the Drexler trade made to the Trailblazers. If teams are willing to bend over for us, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't take advantage of it. Go get 'em, Rudy. ------------------ Sometimes I think I'd be better off dead. No, wait, not me...you.
I see a few starry-eyed dreamers are still letting their hopes cloud their powers of observation. Doubt it'll help, but you at least might want to be aware that Jamison hasn't given even the slightest indication that he's unhappy; to the contrary, he helped recruit Fortson, has been working out in the Bay Area most of the summer, and has publicly committed to being a team leader this year. And even if he was unhappy, the new labor agreement guarantees that Jamison can't go anywhere as a free agent until the summer of 2002 at the earliest (in fact, until 2003 if GS chooses to exercise its right to match any contract offer). So the only way he'd leave any earlier is if he tried to strangle the coach. And trying that with Cowens would be more likely to land him on the IR for the year than with another team. ------------------
Wow, hard to believe an unrealistic trade such as this could fill six pages as counting. I'm the web administrator at warriorsarena.com and thought I'd shed some light on this deal. First of all, as you can no doubt guess, there is no way Jamison is dealt. No he doesn't want out - no one is happier to be a Warrior. He took it upon himself to recruit both Larry Hughes (Larry Brown said he'd only trade him to a team he wanted to go to and Hughes wanted to stay on the East Coast. After hanging with Jamison at the All-Star game, the team at the top of his list became Golden State) and Danny Fortson (met him at the airport). He's likely the team captain and ready to sign long term as soon as possible. From what I've been told, a Dampier/Cato swap was discussed but both teams backed off - neither willing to give up on their centers yet. Sorry, any talk of Jamison would have lasted about as long as it took Garry St. Jean to say no. And for all those history majors bent on bringing up bad trades from the past, they all have one thing in common - the people who made them are no longer with the organization. ------------------
Oh, I didn't know this was where General Managers came to disprove the trades! Hey warrior fan, you can only dream to keep that guy in Golden State. It's going to be tough to keep that guy in Golden State. Golden State found it difficult to win with Sprewell, Hardaway, Mullin, Webber, and Seikley; not to mention their very good bench. The only good feat that Golden State has done of late was match the 15 game winning streak of the Rockets at 10, then they lost and went downhill!! Williams and Cato can help Golden State more than jamison can! ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.
Well, golly gee, if (1) the Warriors can't hold on to good players, and (2) "Williams and Cato can help Golden State more than Jamison can" . . . I guess they couldn't hold on to Williams and Cato either, could they? So they might as well keep Jamison. Sorry, guys, the trade is off (stifled sob) ... your scrubs are just too good for us!! ------------------
