Bingo. I said "mainstream-hata," but I like yours better. A lot of you may not like ROTK (or like it as much as the other films), but realize that a win for that film means a win for the ENTIRE series, something that is long overdue. The rumor floating around Hollywood for 3 years has been that the Academy would wait until the final LOTR film came out before bestowing Oscar greatness on it, thereby indirectly recognizing the whole trilogy. Then again, I'm not saying ROTK is an absolute shoo-in here for Best Picture. After all, this was just the Hollywood Foreign Press voting (and foreigners in general seem to be more ga-ga and awestruck over the LOTR movies than Americans). But, you have to admit that ROTK is the frontrunner for the award. Besides, fantasy/sci-fi films NEVER win Best Picture. As a fan of the genre, I'm hoping a ROTK win will reverse that trend and spur Hollywood to actually make Ender's Game, Hyperion, Foundation, etc. (instead of languishing in development hell). Back to the awards: In post-awards interviews, all the interviewers made out Charlize Theron to be "so brave" for doing Monster. Was she really that good in that movie, or did she win because she uglified herself? After all, Nicole Kidman more or less did the same thing for The Hours, and she got nominated, too. Using this logic, Renee Zellweger WILL get nominated for the sequel to Bridget Jones' Diary next year because she gained many pounds for the role (she's so brave!).
Faos, Thanks for the Jennifer Aniston pic! Too bad that you had to ruin this thread by posting a pic of J-Ho, though.
There's a sequel!? The first one was the worst chick flick I've ever had to sit through. Now, there's another one!? I'm still having nightmares of fat chicks in Playboy bunny suits. I'm putting my foot down, I ain't watchin' this one.
LOTR deserved every award it got - and I take my hat off to PJ for doing an incredible job of turning the best fantasy trilogy ever into an amazing movie trilogy. I would have liked to have seen the scouring of the Shire, but I'll live without it.
I have never understood the fascination with Sarah Jessica Parker. She is average looking at best, but she has done a great job at making people think that she is some sexpot.
I think people still like to think of her when she was young - she has to be like 45(ish) now at least. I just think J.A. looks like her that's all.
Please. Any facts besides the fact that I think LOTR is seriously flawed? I like lots of popular movies. I don't necessarily think they are "good", but I find tons of movies entertaining. Case in point: Matrix Reloaded. Pitiful as a film, but entertaining as hell. Probably the best action movie of all time. LOTR has some impressive visuals and good scenes. But any emotional buildup gained at the end of the first movie (the best of the three) was lost in the last two chapters. And as a whole, the movies are NOT GOOD. Simple as that. I'm anti-popular things? I guess that explains why I like Matrix, Star Wars, Swingers, Fight Club, XMen 2... and countless other 'popular' movies.
Okay, it was wrong for me to assume that because you don't like LOTR, you don't like anything that is popular, that was my mistake. Let's just leave it at that. On another topic, I'm SO HAPPY that Friends was beaten out by The Office. Finally, a real comedy getting some credit. The comedic talent in The Office far outweighs the 'actors' portraying 'funny rolls' in Friends.
Well granted I do not go to see a movie with her in it because of her great acting prowess (like "Along Came Polly"), but I have to admit that she is eye candy. And I will add that I think she is better looking now than she was 5 years ago.
Exactly! Agree on both points..I would have loved to have seen Wormtongue slit Sarumans throat.. I think some here just love to be all cultured and artsy and claim to love all these indy films and bash truely great films such as the LOTR series.. Oh well..I dont expect them to like what I like...but to claim that it sucked as a *fact* when all that it is a opinion...your opinion dont mean jack crap...obviously many many others thought otherwise btw...these are Golden Globes...
I didn't claim that LOTR sucked as a "fact". It of course is only my opinion. BTW - Big Fish, Last Samurai, Mystic River, indie films? no.
Hola... Sarah Jessica Parker looks like a crack ho. Her body is alright, but she never got naked. Anyway...about Lost in Translation. Well, it's different... I didn't think it was particularly funny. Many people might now go see it and be like wtf... It's not a bad movie, just very different than what you're use to seeing. Your typical critic's darling...
Lost in Translation is an overrated movie in my opinion. I'd be curious to see the reaction to it if it had been some chick off the street who made it rather than the daughter of a great, world-renowned director. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a mildly amusing movie with a good performance by Bill Murray, but a classic, award-winning film, it is not. My faves of the year (that I've seen): 1. Lord of the Rings 2. Mystic River 3. American Splendor 4. Better Luck Tomorrow 5. Kill Bill 6. Finding Nemo 7. Big Fish 8. Whale Rider 9. Shape of Things 10. House of Sand and Fog Honorable Mention: Thirteen, Pirates of the Caribbean, Cold Mountain, Seabiscuit, Anything Else Still want to see: Elephant, 21 Grams, In America, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Monster, School of Rock
