I haven't actually been on the Washington State Ferry, but I've read it is one of the most scenic because it goes through the San Juans.

I just did a quick search, and someone else suggested a more efficient and more scenic route as well. This take you right into Victoria Harbour istead of to Sidney (and I have to admit.............the drive from Sidney to Victoria is nothing special.

I live in Victoria and take that ferry often. It's ghetto compared to the BC ferries, but still nice (and the ride is quite scenic). Border crossing is less complicated, but can still take more than half an hour if you are late (last car on the ferry).

Another option is to take the Tswassenn ferry up in BC. The route is beautiful as well. Let me know if you have any questions.

Both the WA state ferry and the BC ferry land in Sidney. The only WA ferries that lands in Victoria harbour are from Seattle and Port Angeles I think. No worries, its only a 20 min drive from Sidney.
