Imperial Palace is going to be the cheapest place with the best location. But it is very old and looks it (especially the rooms - they almost look like old motel rooms). But if I'm there just to gamble I don't care if my room is old as long as it's safe and clean. Luxor can be cheap during the week (as low as $45 a night before taxes and fees) but it is way at the end of the strip. There are still a lot of things around, though so it is not a bad location at all. If the spa is important then the Luxor is WAY better than IP. If you think your going to bring people back to your room, stay at Luxor. If you are going solo just to gamble (and you don't care what your "date" thinks of your room), check out IP. One thing though, if you do bring a new friend back to your room absolutely make sure that you have NOTHING in your room that would be worth stealing. That means before you go out, lock everything up in the room or hotel safe that you don't want to go missing after she slips you a ruffie. Or so I've heard...
Agree - I'd be interested if he comes back alive. Especially considering Riviera isn't in such a great area. The IP has already been mentioned, but some other low cost options on the strip are Tropicana, Flamingo, O'Sheas, and Casino Royale.
This, you're staying in Old Vegas. If I were you I'd even stay at Hooters, its right across from MGM and to be honest the rooms are pretty decent for the low price. If you have money to splurge tho I'd stay at Cosmo, it's pretty new and they have some nice night spots to check out. I also wouldn't get a car or taxi unless you plan on going outside of the strip area. Everyone walks on the strip so be prepared to do a lot of it.
It would seem his room is already booked, if you're staying at the Riviera, only stay there to sleep, again you would be a complete idiot NOT to rent a car if you stay there, you can't walk (well you physically can, but from Riv to the north end of the main strip Wynn, TI, you'll be doing close to an hour of it and it's not the nicest part of town) rental cars are cheap in Vegas, we're talking $25 a day. You'll spend that on a taxi ride to and from Riv, not to mention anywhere else you might want to go or if you have to go back once or twice throughout the day. Of course you will be doing a ton of walking, if you haven't been, these places are like little cities. But a rental car from where you think you are (already are) staying is a must.

why would you go by yourself? It is a party city for you and your buddies. I went just last week and stayed at the vdara with some friends. I would recommend that place or aria, the corner suite we were in was a nice little man cave. They both connect to the bellagio. The first thing you will notice is how deceptively big the strip is. Ceasars palace is huge. There is a lot of walking, on the strip and prepare to cab a bit if you are not on the strip. Dont rent a car, why go to vegas if you arent going to drink a bit. They serve you unlimited cocktails while you gamble. Plus it would seem like driving on the strip would suck a lot. Splurge a bit, otherwise you are finding a cheap way to go to a tourist trap in the middle of the dessert. No point in staying at a cheap place in Vegas, the price point doesnt change much, but at a nicer place, concierge will basically do anything for you. Want to be served in and out burgers at 3 in the morning, done. Want them to make your friends bed a fort by the time you get from partying, done. Also, don't have sex with a hooker. Have some pride and basic self preservation instincts.There are literally thousands of single ladies in Vegas drinking it up.
Tropicana is newly remodeled. He can also walk to MGM and take the monorail around the strip. He can order all the coors lights and fancy potato chips in vegas all day!
I booked my flight and hotel like an hour before I made this thread. I should of waited to book it after reading all these post lol. Well I booked it for April staying for six nights for only $415. I've been to vegas twice, but it was only with family and you can't really do anything crazy with family plus I didn't stay there long enough to remember where all the stuff is.I actually called the expedia people on the phone to book it and the indian lady told be that the Ceaser palace was right next, 2 mins away from the Rivera. I guess I was duped but you can't beat six days for 415. I was actually looking at the Palace as a place to stay but Rivera seemed like a better hotel and it wasa little cheaper. I wanted to be in the middle of the strip but what are you gonna do? I might take the guys advice an rent a car for half my trip. But if I were to get a car and just hang out in the middle of the strip, where do you guys recommend I park? Would it be eaiser to park at one of the hotels if they charge for it? I don't mind walking, but I didn't know it would be a hour to get where I want to get. People are asking why I'm going alone. I going alone to recharge my batteries. I work with nothing but dudes all day. If you go alone you can bring all the girls you want without asking your friend to get out. You can more freedom to do want you want when you want. I still don't get the recommendation to rent a car, everything is in walking distance or you can get a day pass for the bus to move up and down the strip, that way you can drink as much as you want without having to worry about driving.
I did about a year in a condo/hotel in the middle of the strip. It takes a lot of discipline...I had some. The car idea is okay...but the money spent on that can be used to get a different room in a different hotel. If he is stuck on the Riviera, the Bus is the cheapest and best option. It's not old Vegas, it's ghetto old Vegas. It's like the last option I'd do. 1) Middle Strip 2) South/North Strip 3) Downtown 4) Off Strip (Hard Rock, Palms, Rio, LVH-formerly Hilton) 5) Really Off Strip (M, Southpoint) 6) Ghetto Abandoned North Strip that has half built empty residential towers, ugly hookers, crime, etc (Riviera, Stratosphere). There's a reason Sahara went out of business.
Where is Mandalay Bay in reference to everything else? I'm going for 6 nights myself to a conference at the end of May. I wish I could post a pic of the girl at work that is going with me. Wow!! :grin:
