Yeah go as long that is feasible because most of the cost is getting there in the first place.

 

Rome is great, but I prefer Florence so I would spend more time there.

One way to save is to rent an apartment and avoid a hotel. However, then you may need to stay in one place for the full week as a lot of the people renting out apartments want a week minimum. The cost savings per night can be large.
