Yeah, Hayes just needs to take a break, and so does Shane, neither of those two should be getting serious minutes anymore. They need to let Ariza(24) and Chase(21) take over the three spot, and let Armstrong/ Andersen /Jeffries take over the center spot for the rest of the season.....proposed line up rest of the year: Brooks | Lowry Martin | Temple | Taylor Ariza | Chase | Battier Scola | Hill | Hayes Andersen| Jeffries | Armstrong --RB
So does Adelman connect "going small" with a certain style of play, perhaps emphasizing the perimeter game? Interesting. I'm all for more offense in the starting lineup, but I'd be surprised if replacing Hayes with Andersen works for the next two games vs. San Antonio and Utah. It may make it too tough to guard the likes of Duncan and a rejuvenated Boozer. Also, Bullard mentioned how Andersen's jump shot seems to be affected by how much he has to work defensively. When he has to battle physical frontcourt players, his shot sometimes starts to go flat, apparently. Anyway, we'll see.
I was wondering when they'd head toward "tinkered with 25 different lineups to find the right mix" mode. AKA= development and experimentation toward next year. AKA= let the lotto balls fall where they may.
I agree with you, he seems to be a foul machine. I thought he was brought in to be Yao's back up, but if he's all we can find, then we are screwed, this team needs someone bigger than David, and someone who can stay out of foul trouble. On another note, how much smaller can this team go, are we going to get Chuy from Chelsea Lately to be on the team, I think the Rockets maybe the shortest team in NBA history. Sorry to sound like a such a b, just been a long day
I think Chuck was able to start this season cause we had no option. When Anderson came, we had him, but to me he looks too frail to defend any real center in the NBA. Now that we have Jeffries we actually have something to work with, Chuck's role and responsibility is going to be reduced to what he did last season when Yao was here. I don't know if I'm right but RA is saying we're going "small" to not hurt Chuck's feelings as much now that he is reducing Chuck's role.
I love Chuck as much as anyone, but refusing to recognize how fatally flawed and incompetent a center rotation of Chuck + David Andersen has been is really quite foolish. We just traded for three guys that are 6'10" or bigger -- time to see what they can do.
Interesting that Anderson got little playing time tonight after Adelman makes these statements. Also, interesting that this happens BEFORE I was able to ask if Rick Adelman even watched the 2nd half or if he was over there asleep. Granted, The Rockets were down going into the 2nd half, but they got blown out with Anderson on the floor over Hayes. Maybe they watched the tape and realized wtf was going on. Some people though will just never get it. Chuck will never get enough credit for what he does on the floor, only get discredited for what he doesn't do. For every missed shot, he is getting steals, swipes, charges, or changing plays by playing position defense on the other end. Some people will just never realize how important it is to get a stop that may very well have sparked the other team into a 10-0 run, chase down a loose ball that may very well spark your team into a 10-0 run, or simply making the other team work harder to score. There will be some (probably a lot) of people, even analysts who would look at Tim Duncan tonight (17 points, 8 rebs, 8-17 shooting) and say he had a good game and Chuck Hayes can't guard him. But how difficult was it for him to score? Even if he, or Dwight Howard, etc score 25-30, how much does it take out of them? If Chuck does his job, which he generally does, those players will be out of gas late in the 4th because they exerted so much energy to score. Those are things that make it difficult to win 7 game series. It should be interesting to note that even though The Rockets haven't won that many playoff series since Chuck Hayes came aboard, that a lot of those series went 6 or 7 games. And we are talking damn good basketball teams with damn good big men (Boozer, Bynum, Gasol, Aldridge).
