i dont even think of them as two separate movies. but if i had to pick 1 it would be part I.

i like when they show the version on tv that does pts. I and II in chronological/linear order. opens w/ young vito in sicilly and the de niro stuff.

1 is my favorite movie ever, 2 is second.

I love the emergence of Michael as the Don.

I have to tend to agree...

Coppola made some edits and released "Godfather Saga- 1901-1959" which played out the events in the first 2 movies in Chronological order.

it's pretty cool to see the rise of young Vito in Little Italy, then watch Brando knock it out of the park on the day of his daughter's wedding, followed by Michael always knowing it was Fredo and getting pulled back in just when he thought he was out...

    I concur totally.

The downward spiral feeling in Godfather part 2 was as great as Michael's ups and downs in part 1.

That might be the dumbest thing yet you've uttered on this board.

Untouchables is a good movie, but its not even in the same universe as Godfather I or II.

I would have to give a slight nod to Godfather I as it is my favorite movie of all time. So many excellent scenes to choose from, but this one is my all time favorite:

Not to derail this thread, but I'm curious as to what new "gangster-type" films are better then the Godfather series and Scarface?

An opinion on a movie has nothing to do with intelligence.

Am I the first to make you aware of this?

It does when you compare Goodfellas to Godfather.

    Only in your mind.

I didn't like it. I tried to. And I like the genre which is why I was so disappointed. It was just sooooo slow.

I've seen Mrs. Butterworth move at a faster pace.

How much of how good Godfather is has to do with Coppola versus how awesome the book is? I've read that book 10 times. Or does it not even matter?

Goodfellas is an awesome movie but I just love the Godfather movies and books.

They are both masterpieces, worthy of comparison.

Godfather 1 by a fairly wide margin IMO. I didn't think that highly of Godfather 2, while 1 definitely makes my personal top 5 list.
