The personalized plate is my first name! You know, I've never believed in God. The notion of a higher power has been shoved down my throat having been raised in a decently religious Hindu family, but I always ignored it. I begrudgingly participated in poojas and various ceremonies, but my heart was never into it. I would always let my mind wander and think about how the Oilers were gonna pull it out on Sunday or try to figure out why I was so pissed we drafted Robert Horry over Harold Miner in 1992. But, now I'm a believer. My buddy drove me to my car. I turned the key, and it started. It was making some horrendous noises, but it started. There was still a pool of water in the back seat, but we decided to give it a go. He followed me to my house. Along the way, the car made horrendously loud noises whenever i applied the brakes. Sounded like a man buried alive moaning in a coffin. But we soldiered on and got to the house. This morning, I woke up at 4am and left for the gym. Drove there and the car still worked fine. I had placed towels everywhere to soak up the remaining water. Now, the car is running fine (no funny noises), but smells like hot sweaty ass. I do believe in a higher power. Someone is looking out for me, and I sure as hell don't deserve it. But I think I'll go ahead with my plan of buying a new car by December.
drapg, Seriously. GET YOUR CAR CHECKED OUT. Alot of flood damage can occur during long term exposure. If you got water in your transmission or engine, it might not start causing problems till later on. At least have a mech check your fluids for inter-mix. Also, have them check your air cleaner to see if your engine sucked in any water. In fact, Jiffy Lube can do this for you for the cost of an oil change. Also, if your interior got wet, your jute well end up rotting out with mold by the time the hot summer days return.
Yeah, I'm planning to go to a mechanic to have it checked out tomorrow, then going to a car wash (Mr. Bubbles?) to have the interior totally detailed. Thanks for all the well wishes all. This truly is a stupendous community.
If you interior got wet, a detail place can shampoo the carpet allt hey want and its not going to fix the problem (as far as smell). The foam padding underneath will rot out and turn moldy. TRUST ME.
The moment you take the first look into the eyes of your newborn son/daughter, you KNOW God exists. It absorbs your entire body and being. At that moment, the baby seems a million times larger and more important than you'll ever be. At that moment body, spirit, love and God all become one. At that moment you are humbled before the Lord.
Drapg, do like codell says - get that thing checked out before you find yourself stalling while trying to do 80 on a freeway. Your "higher power" may just look down on you and say "ok, that's it - this guy's not getting it". Also, you can put all the napkins you want to soak up that water, but if there's as much water damage as you said in the car, prepare for funkitude.
drapg, I can't believe you're not listening to some of the advice in here. 1. Stop driving the car 2. Call your insurance co. & say you want to file a claim for flood damage 3. Have car towed (or drive if it's real close) to agreed upon garage 4. Have ins.co. send adjuster to look at car If you ever plan on trading this car in or selling it, you are screwed. Any good mechanic will take about 2 minutes to look & say "this car's been flooded." You will not get anything close to market value for it. Plus, there's an incredibly heightened probability of future mechanical/electrical problems due to the water damage. PLUS again, you will never, ever get the smell out of the car unless you replace the foam under the carpet. You can get it detailed 1000 times, it won't matter. Do it. You're honestly crazy not to.
Cool, I had a '73 Delta 88 about 10 years ago (it was my grandfather's). I sold it for nothing. I should of kept it and made an art car. I want another one.
In the name of all that is manly, I hope I don't see you in an H3, or an H2 for that matter. Get a truck, dude!
Damn, Drag....hate to pile on you with what you're going through, but the question arises: Since the price of gas is only going to go up until the end of time, why on earth would you buy a Hummer? How many floods will you actually have to drive through?
Wow, I can't believe you are driving that car ~ if it is making these sounds: I turned the key, and it started. It was making some horrendous noises... ...then you have sucked some water up into the air intake. You'll need to drain all the oil/ etc... Continue driving if you want to blow the engine and void your warranty. Take it to a mechanic ~ it's not a big problem to fix.
