Cardi B is amazing, especially If you like real old school Hip Hop. She shreds 99.9 percent of dudes as an MC these days and that’s just a fact. She is here to stay. But I’m mostly annoyed with you young and old folks that haven’t had your education in Rakim and Big Daddy Kane, and just jumped straight to Tupac and Biggie.
As another person who doesn't know who Cardi B is until this thread and now her name constantly popping up in news headlines... what does one have to do with the other? Person A committed a crime but because person B also committed a crime and didn't do the time we shouldn't look into person A's crime? If Cardi B committed this crime, it is provable, and prosecutable, she should be charged and punished for it. If it's not, and we're just commenting on her as a person and her ethics, etc... well, same thing. If you were a horrible person, you were a horrible person.
Keep in mind, the consensus greatest Hip Hop song amongst Hip Hop heads is “Paid in Full”. Cardi B is hitting all the historic themes, and spinning some extremely interesting dialogue about her troubled past as a stripper. The ex-stripper going double platinum in record sales... If it is 15 minutes, it sure has been a longggg 15 minutes now, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

Am I hallucinating, or did you just mention Cardi B in the same breath as Eric B. and Rakim? I agree that she is clearly way past being labeled as someone with 15 minutes of fame. However, I'd argue that today's mainstream rap is dumbed down and not good, and for the life of me cannot see how anyone could confuse her with old school rap. And even though, I think she's a terrible rapper, you may still be right that she's better than 99% of current rappers. Historically...just no.
The problem is Hip Hop fans have never wanted either of those things to happen. They always chant to “free such and such” They never call for the procecution of rappers. Name one. The last one was tech9six whatever the hell and they call him a snitch. That’s just the culture. They don’t care about holding anyone accountable for their past actions
Technically, a lot of people used to go after Tupac, because he was in some ways a step down from Rakim/Kane. Regardless, his dialogue was new and interesting. It was “Hip” and “Hop”. Cardi B is not some crazy lyricist, but she is assuredly Hip Hop. There is truly some gold in her albums If you are a Hip Hop head and willing to listen in an unbiased fashion. That’s why she goes double platinum on everythanggggg.
