Please, PLEASE say someone has video of this. Bill Walton is my hero. He's the greatest broadcaster in the history of Western Civilization.

Bill Walton: NBA Announcer is back in the game of life, has crash-landed back on Earth, and did his first game as a part-time color commentator for the Kings. Just how part time is Big Red?

* He's only working five or so games this year for Sacramento, all of which were scheduled to be in Los Angeles, Phoenix or worked via satellite.

* In the first game (in Phoenix), he only worked the second quarter, plus very brief on-camera appearances pregame and during halftime with fellow part-time Kings employee Jim Gray. Yes, that's right: Bill Walton and Jim Gray work for the 3-6 Sacramento Kings.

* Bill did not bring a suit or any shirt with buttons to Phoenix.

Walton wore a long-sleeved t-shirt to the gym to work the game; luckily, an NBA official on hand had an official NBA striped polo in a very large size for Walton to put over his long-sleeved tee. That picture to the right depicts Walton's very professional attire for the night's work.

So basically, Walton is treating this gig exactly most teenagers treat part-time jobs: with complete apathy. But the natural law that states putting Bill Walton in front of a microphone results in magic. Since only local Kings fans caught Big Red's re-debut (League Pass had the Phoenix feed), here's a text-based highlight reel.

* "No excuse. What a disgrace. I'm a disgrace to the sartorial splendor of Jerry Reynolds and Grant Napear and Jim Gray, and I beg your forgiveness. I forgot my clothes!" Walton explains his striped polo to the normal Kings TV crew. By the way, Jerry Reynolds' sartorial splendor included a green blazer stolen from Augusta National.

* "There you go, big man. Throw one down PLEASE." Walton implores DeMarcus Cousins to work inside after opening the quarter with a face-up jumper over Channing Frye followed by a putback layup off a Tyreke Evans miss. Walton will later confuse Cousins for Darnell Jackson when Cousins actually does throw one down.

* "This guy Goran Dragic is a tremendous force." Walton champions the Slovenian point guard after a long jumper.

* "Look at Darnell Jackson go to work in there! He's got game, he's got heart." Walton heralds Jackson after the forward draws a foul going for an offensive rebound.

* "You need minutes in the NBA. Fourteen minutes the other night, boy you'd be sitting there steaming, saying 'how come I'm not in there?' Sometimes you just have to substitute yourself." Walton explains why Cousins needs minutes, and then goes on to talk about all the times he subbed himself into games.

* "Well that's only because Neil Young didn't play basketball." Walton responds to Reynolds' assertion Steve Nash is the greatest Canadian basketball player ever.

* "This is a mismatch." Walton comments on Samuel Dalembert guarding Nash on a switch.

Walton is the best. He says some funny things that others just can not even image about. I do not know why he is not in the espn, but one time I heard he did some pregame record in sports 610 for the rockets around two weeks ago, it was very good.

This guy really hates the Rockets. I remember 3 or 4 years ago when this was still JVG's team he said the Suns are even better defensively than the Rockets. Now it would be one thing if the Sun were playing better D against the Rockets that game but it becomes absolutely silly when you factor in that the Rockets weren't even playing that night.

i dont know about that man. whenever someone used to bring up the houston rockets around bill walton, he always gave yao ming his props.

I remember that game. That was the first game of the season they won, before going on a 18 game losing streak. thus getting Dwight Howard.

he worships any premiere big man. that includes Dream and Yao. He was all over Houston's nuts during the back2back.
