12-9 is not great, T_Man. but they have a lot of good parts. but for this team to be a championship team, we will need that "superstar." we're banking on yao or a potential free agent for that. morey would trade 2-3 of these guys that do the closing by committee job well for lebron with no hesitation. he knows what wins championships. you're probably one of those fans who loved the detroit pistons' style of ball and there is nothing wrong with that. i just can't take my chances when it has happened only once in the history of the NBA that a team wins without a superstar.
5 man unit beats a 2 star team. The main issue in the NBA is IMO the 'star call' If the stars get the calls.. .it disrupts the 5 man unit Rocket River
Yes sir you are correct, Golden State and Seattle when they won the championship... No one man.. One unit... I hate this David Stern Superstar gets all the calls from the league basketball.. I'm glad Tim D. is spilling all the beans on the NBA..
You also hit the nail on the head for scouting. I bet you we have a great record against the east this year. The teams that only get to see us twice will not be able to game plan for us. Especially not defensively.
I love that our team is an actual team that every night one person can step up and be the deciding factor, but as many of us have said through this season and past season, when its tight in the fourth quarter and we are struggling in a crucial game, the Rockets do not have that closer to finish the games and secure a victory. This is where not having a go to man has hurt us with our frequent inujuries throughout the years... I think we still need a go to man, especially down the stretch in the playoffs, when we are without our stars...
Word up T-man! We have seen this before, haven't we? I seem to remember games in the past when 4 guys close in on McGrady, and there's nothing we could do to take advantage of that.
I think Carl is our best one on one offensive player but in the end of the game, the guard has to take over.
Gonna have to disagree heavily with that first statement. How can you say Lebron doesn't make his teammates better when the team scores more and defends better when he's on the court? He's always a top assist man at the SF position making players like VAREJAO and ILGAUSKAS look good. He carries that team on his shoulders. Tired of people ragging on Lebron when the truth is his teammates are the ones that are overrated. Ilgauskas and Shaq - way too old and slow to be able to keep up with the pace the game is now. Anthony Parker and Jamario Moon are the Cavs best wings (terrible). Daniel Gibson - oh so inconsistent. Delonte West - Headcase. Which leave Mo Williams who is a great player and is probably the ONLY other player on that team that can create his own shot.
Did we have a go to committee when we won our championships? Oh wait... we had the best player in the game...
What separates a good team from a great team? Predictability down the stretch. Great teams: Boston - Allen, Pierce, Garnett are all capable of taking the last shot. Orlando - Howard, Lewis, or Carter are the most likely candidates. L.A. - Kobe, Gasol, Bynum or even Odom can handle it. Good teams: Cleveland - LeBron and... uhh... LeBron? Portland - Brandon Roy. Dallas - Nowitzki. ... and so on. I'd prefer having it be unknown who is going to get the call down the stretch whether its Brooks, Landry, Ariza, or Scola. As we saw last night, predictability can be your downfall. Of course, it's always nice to have a guy like LeBron/Dirk/Roy that can win the game for you. Unfortunately, we don't have that, so by committee is the only way to succeed.
Sorry Keez, But as t_mac1 said, we will have to agree to disagree... So tell me what is the difference between a so called T-Mac being called a ball stopper and carrying the team on his back different than Lebron... A Superstar makes the players around him better... As I stated in a earlier post.. Does the Golden Child need great players around him all that he can be??? I see a very average team with no superstars giving the teams with not 1 but with 2 and 3 superstars all they can handle night-in and night-out. I see the Cavs looking like deers in a headlight when the Golden Child is stopped like he was last night.... But on the other side I see a bunch of nobody's playing like a pack of wolves that smell blood.. This is almost the same team that went to the finals a couple of years ago and everytime I look up, their always an excuse as to why Lebron has not advanced... Team, coaches or something.. Sounds almost like T-Mac, Garnett or any other SuperStar.. So I see now all the Superstars need other superstars to be effective.... Hmmm.. Now I see this Rockets team with a 6'5 Center and a 5'3 pg and they don't back down from anyone.... They have no superstar or Go To Player, No TV games and supposely no chance at winning 20 games.. All they have is Heart, Hard Work and Themselves... Win or Lose.. They have no excuses and they don't point fingers or (B) itch about who want pass the ball to who... But everytime you look up you have some so called superstar who only cares about his endorsements and stats and has about 30 excuses as to why they didn't win... I can tell you why... Play like a freakin teammate and stop worrying about being on some ESPN highlight or the HERO... So as t_mac1 stated earlier... "I bet you liked the Pistons"... Yes I did.. because they played as a team.....
Yeah we did have the best player... But remember other players stepped up in both championships.. Mario Elie, Kenny Smith, Robert Horry, Clyde Drexler they all stepped up to take some big time shots.... But at the same time they played as a team and as Unit.
