I'm rooting for the Celtics. Horry has too many rings, Mario got one, its about time for Sam to get his again. He's arguably the most underrated PG of our time.
I wouldn't mind seeing KG win one, or the rest of the roster that has never won anything. Now if the Patroits won then there is no way I could root for the Spurs and have Boston get the trifecta.
The best way to describe my feelings for the Spurs is looking at that dumpy average dude dating that hot chick you use to date, and you scratching your head in wonder and resentment. The Spurs are a blah team in a blah town. No mystique about them, nothing really exciting about them, nothing worth talking about them, they just have 4 titles. I do hold them in disdain for DRob sitting out and them getting Duncan for it. I do look at Pops in disdain for throwing Bob Hill into the bus and anointing himself as the SA coach for the Duncan era. Pat Riley got grief for doing it to Stan Van Gundy but Pops seems to get a relative free pass. I still hold an asterisk to that first SA title for the strike shortened year. Why? Cause I feel like it. I either don't care or don't like any of their current players. Robert Horry is dead to me, as far as identifying past Rockets heroes. The rest of them are either dirty, floppers, or boring. But my resentment is more to my Rockets and Rudy T/CD after the championship years of what they did to my Rockets that slowly sank it to an unwatchable and pedestrian type of team with no playoff success. I resent the fact we couldn't keep up with the Spurs in terms of success. I resent the bad drafts, the horrible big contracts that we gave out that handcuffed us, the ISO ball, the trades that didn't work out, etc etc. As far as I'm concerned Spurs are up there with Jazz and Mavs as teams to root against, just for a different reason. If Tim, Manu, and Tony go down with career ending injuries and the Spurs plunge to Clipper like suckage for the next 20 years, that would be ok with me. ...Oh and Spurs fans suck, even the Rockets fans that cheer for the Spurs 2nd.
F the Spurs. They are rivals, their fans hate us and talk **** about us all the time (which is why we should respond in kind), they have freakin' Bruce Bowen (who does the same kind of crap we hate Karl Malone for, but with less talent) and a Jazz-level flopper in Manu (though he has more talent than most of the Utah team). Worst of all, Robinson cheated Hakeem out of another MVP. Root for San Antonio? Pfft. You should be ashamed of yourself.
The only other team I root for besides the Rockets are the Comets.. and I don't even follow the WNBA.
I have to agree, a friend of mine is a Spurs fan and he was all appologetic when yao got hurt. Then when we lost to the Jazz he said he was pulling for the Rockets. He wanted to see us win a series. Dallas fans (my roomate, his brothers....my other friend here) were all asses about it. Saying it doesn't matter that we won 22 in a row. All that matters is a championship. They are like there is no reason to watch the regular season. When Yao went down they said why keep watching? Yall have NO chance at the Ring. The spursfan said the 22 in a row was amazing etc.
What a joke...read their message boards when they're losing at halftime in a game by double digits...you'll find tons of posts calling their team fa***ts and worse.
So you're basing this on one fan that you know. Hilarious. He's probably your friend for all the right reasons, but that's the flaw. I'm sure I'm not allowed to post a link to another team's forum, but I must quote this from a Spurs fan: You just don't get it. I don't expect yall to either. The world isn't centered on the Rockets. They haven't done anything worth mentioning in the past 12 years or so. Really, nobody cares about them! It's getting ridiculous. You keep saying the rivals are Dallas and Utah. But neither fan base of those two respected teams would even waste time with mentioning the Rockets in anything!!! Whatever makes you happy I guess. As for me, I don't have anything against the Spurs. They do everything right... all the time. You have to respect that organization for what they do. However, I don't like rooting for them, but when the other two teams are either the Lakers or Hornets, you have no choice! Go Cavs!
I just wanted to point out to the members of the Forum that point that Spurs Fan hate the Rockets that i have a user in Spursreport and i can completely assure that over there Mavs, Lakers and Utah, are far more hated than the Rockets, i think maybe even the Nuggz are more hated over there. Also this year it was also a Rockets thread congratulating about the streak and many of them said to like the Rockets because they have a common nemesis in Utah and the Mavs.
I hate the Spurs with every fiber of my being. I have hated them since David Robinson got that MVP trophy that should have went to Hakeem, and I won't stop now. I can't stop now. Now Duncan has four trophies and two mvp's. Twice as many as Hakeem, despite being half the player Hakeem was. It is unjust, and I cannot wish them any further success. I can only hate them for the success they've had. I do appreciate them giving us Scola for a bag of Doritos though.
Will not root for the Spurs ever!! I live in Spursville aka the Rio Grande Valley and its like living in Hell!!! Rockets Only Fan for Life brother!!!
