Whatever. I am a huge Rockets homer but I like SA too. If the Rocket's cant win then I have no problem with SA winning. Not only are they a TX team, but they have one of the best players I have ever seen lace up a pair (Duncan), a dude with one of the biggest pairs I have seen since Cassell (Manu), and a loved ex-Rocket (Horry). On top of that they play wonderful defense and their ball movement and sets are nice to watch. Watching Duncan school people in the post, or Manu step up in key big moments is not boring at all......
This is a joke right? Why are you not a Spurs fan instead of a Rockets fan? Are you one of those guys who supports the Longhorns and Aggies at the same time? A TX team, that's worse, we have to deal with their fans on a regular basis.
lol I swear IT is almost like I made the thread, because my feelings are the exact same. I never really had a second team until SA became it. I have always liked the spurs sorta but never claimed to. I always felt that I had to hate them because I am a diehard rockets fan. But ya they are my 2nd team too now and I still HATE dallas lol.
Um..he said he's a Rocket homer but he's a fan of the Spurs too...so it's not like he's choosing one over the other... Being a die-hard Rockets fan doesn't mean you have to be blind and unappreciative of good basketball
What is wrong with you? If the Rockets aren't in the playoffs, then root for all teams to get disqualified.
I'm apathetic towards the Spurs, as much of the country is according to their Nielson ratings.. They play solid ball, but Bowen's dirty play, along with the Floppin' Frenchy and the Argentine Actor give me pause to think about ever rooting for them over another Western team.
It's not being blind at all. The Hornets are a more entertaining team to watch as well. The Spurs have the 2 lowest NBA Final TV ratings ever. But I guess it's ok if you guys are both Spurs fans. I just won't consider you real Rockets fans who actually dealt with a Rockets-Spurs rivalry from 92-99 and a Western Conference playoff showdown in 95.
That's fine. I'm a Rockets fan first but I'm also a fan of the game. I hate Bowen's dirty play as much as anyone on here but you can't deny that the Spurs efficiency on offense is something to admire especially with the current state of the Rockets offense right now. And as far as I'm concerned, there was no rivalry during the timeline you pointed out because the Rockets came out with 2 rings and the Spurs got nothing until 1999.
Of course there was a rivalry, we were in the same division and both teams were winning alot of games. The Spurs beat us plenty of times. And the Spurs offense is nothing to admire, the Cavs and Spurs offenses were horrible to watch the last 2 games of the finals. Their Deffense is always top notch and consistent but there offense is very sporadic. You just don't get it though. A true Longhorns fan is never going to support the Aggies, a Sox fan is never going to support the Yankees. Do you think a Man U fan would support say Chelsea, if they were in the Champion League finals against Barcelona. "They are a fellow British team, let's support them."No way in hell that would ever happen.
just so there is no confusion with me my teams are the rockets, astros, packers my outsiders are spurs, indians, texans
I've said it repeatedly, but I'll say it once more. If you're a diehard Rockets fan, you would never root for the Spurs. EVER!!! If you think I'm being overly harsh or critical, then understand that you are not a true diehard Rockets fan. And don't give me this crap about the Spurs being likeable to a Rockets fan because they have Horry. After his act against the Suns last year and the Hornets last night, he's rivalling Bruce Bowen as one of the dirtiest players in the league.
Look at it from a Spurs Fan's viewpoint in 1996. When we were down 0-2 to the Sonics and eventually were dethroned and swept by Seattle, true Spurs Fans were cheering for the Sonics and ecstatic. The Rockets would not Three-peat and the Spurs-fans were happy and relieved of some of their pain because of the Rockets beating them the year before and crushing their Championship hopes. If you consider the Spurs a rival which they clearly are, you should not support them. If you don't, then support the Rockets, Spurs, and whoever else you want.
This is funny. The mutual enemy of Dallas made me like the Spurs. According to Tanviraman, this is not allowed. He has illogical arguments and cannot think because of blinding rage. If someone says, "I bleed Rockets red and live and die by the team," then they say, "but I kinda like the Spurs . . ." they are not Rockets fans? I would not cheer for the Spurs if it affected the Rockets in any way (playoff seeding, easier playoff matchup etc.), but they play good ball and are fun to watch. I don't care if their fans aren't knowledgeable, they have every single person in that town cheering for the team. That is definitley enviable. I expected flaming but something more along the lines of "wow I just could never cheer for the Spurs" or "Bowen is a flopper and he annoys me" (which we did get some of)but not "AAGGGGHHH you're NOT A ROCKETS FAN!!!!!" Tanviraman needs some Xanax.
my second team, meaning the team i'd root for after the rockets, keeps changing all the time. the last 2 "second teams" of mine are chris webber's kings, and then tim duncan's spurs.
I'm not raging and your thread and feeling towards the Spurs are illogical, not mine. Two of my closest friends are Spurs fans and one of my closest friends is a Man U and Red Sox fan. We all share the same logic and don't cheer for rival teams. And it's not just us, prove the below false and I'll give your pathetic thread some credit. A true Longhorns fan is never going to support the Aggies, a Sox fan is never going to support the Yankees. Do you think a Man U fan would support say Chelsea, if they were in the Champions League finals against Barcelona. "They are a fellow British team, let's support them."No way in hell that would ever happen.
I support two teams: (1) The Rockets (2) whoever plays against the Lakers. (Yes, it's awfully painful rooting for the Jazz, but it beats watching the Lakers win.) I never quite understand the "rivalry" with the Spurs. They were never an obstacle to us in the playoffs. In the 80s, they were not a threat to us. In the 90s, we beat the heck out of them. In the 00s, we have not been good enough to be on equal footing with them. To me, a rival is someone who is as good as I am and challenge me for what I want to accomplish. The Spurs are never that to the Rockets.
Hey, smart guy. I'm saying I don't see the Spurs as a Jazz or Mavs. I don't know what Man U or Chelsea is. Clinton? I do not understand how liking a team makes me any less of a fan of another. Maybe in your blind raging narrow view it does. C'mon Spurs, win game 7 and teach those NOLA thugs how real basketball is played. Oh, and I am an Aggie, who will never support the Longhorns. I am also a Rockets fan and will never support the Mavs or j*zz. Don't consider SA the enemy.
The Spurs won the division in 95 and came back from 2-0 defecit to tie that series 2-2. Then we took control and won the series, and it was a rivalry the whole time between 92-98 by your standards even though we met in the playoffs only once. Spurs fans hated the Rockets when we were winning championships. The Aggies and Longhorns have not been in much of a Rivalry in football for years, when you consider team success on a national scale. Longorns always in the top 10, Aggies sucking. But the Aggies have had some success in the regular season and they hate the horns. This was the case with the Sox-Yankees till 2005. It wasn't a competitive rivalry but it was always a rivalry. We have also split 2-2 with the Spurs the last few years and were in a division race with them this year. And I'm sure we will eventually face them in the playoffs soon.
