nbadraft.net also has Maurice Williams being a #1 pick this year. What's your point? My point is that nbadraft.net isn't really much of a source to rate drafts for this year, much less in future years. Ms. Cleo has Warrick as a 2nd round pick in 2005... There is no chance in hell Warrick will be a lotto pick, unless he develops a post-up game. How many of his points come off of dunks created from McNamara or Anthony? It seems like most of his buckets are open dunks. It's not like Cuse throws the ball inside to him, and let him work on his man to get points. Until he does, that he's a Jerome Williams.
Also, Syracuse lists him at 6 ft 8, 185 lbs. http://athletics.syr.edu/roster.asp?playerid=552&sport=176 I can't remember any #2 overall picks with that body-type. Moreover, please tell me what position he will play. A SF with no dribbling or shooting skills? A PF with no post-up game? Warrick is a nice role player, but he is nowhere close to being a top pick.
He can shoot it......and GMs seem to like to draft players that are athletic and have "upside" these days. He's just as good as Darius Miles....
I am probably the biggest Darius Miles basher. He can shoot it? I remember CBS announcers saying that Warrick averaged 2.5 dunks per game. When you factor that he just hits less than 6 FGs per game, then that is around 3.5 FGs a game he makes that aren't dunks. I would be willing to bet 1-2 of his other FGs are layups. I can't remember ever seeing Warrick face up with the ball. Of course it's based on "potential" as the drafts get crappier and crappier. But what potential is there for a guy who has shown ZERO ball skills? Please tell me how he differs from Donnell Harvey or Jerome Williams.
Warrick has attempted 1 3 pt shot all year long. The college 3 pt line is 4 feet shorter than the NBA one. If Warrick is uncomfortable shooting from outside of 19 feet, then he will in trouble as an NBA SF.
If you think Warrick sucks (or at least isn't lotto capable), you should've seen him last year as a freshman. He was horrible, but had so much upside. He REALLY worked hard over the summer and came back BIG time during the year. I expect him to get even better the next two years. He will surprise many. I will agree, though, that he won't be another Antonio McDyess unless he can do what Carmelo is doing and shoot from the perimeter.
Name me a SF in the NBA who can't hit 10-13 ft jumpers... Fact is that Warrick is VERY VERY raw. He will have an uphill battle to become an NBA-starter quality player at SF or PF. Like I said before he's a nice college role player, who may be on an NBA roster, but odds are stacked against him to do be able to do much. College role players become NBA role players or not even in the NBA at all.
I never said Warrick sucks. I'm saying that there's no way in hell he will be the #2 overall pick or a lotto pick in any year, until he shows just FLASHES of any kind of perimeter game, or a post up game. Warrick needs to do more than just be an exciting leaper. He got pushed around pretty good whenever James Thomas would be matched up with Warrick for rebounds. SF/PF tweeners are a dime a dozen in the NBA. If John Wallace, who had much more skill, was only a late 1st round pick, then Warrick will be lucky to be a 2nd rounder.
I am saying that I never said he sucks. You said that I said he sucks. I also disagree that he will improve much in the future. David Lee of Florida is much more likely to be a #2 pick than Warrick.
You are typical no-class UT loser. Everytime we lose, the no-class whiny spoiled Texans come out and give the rest of us a bad name. Get a grip. Syracuse played a hell of game, congratulations to the winner.
They beat Zona's 1-3-1 zone, and they have beat Texas 2-3 zone. Kansas (along with maybe Arizona) is the worst possible match-up for Syracuse. The are patient offensively, can send out Hinrich to 25 feet, and most of all--dump the ball to Collison at the free through line and then pass to cutters or shooters. It is the latter way--attacking the zone from inside out--that is its weakness, and Collison or Luke Walton would be the best 2 guys in college basketball to do this. All Collison has to do is stay out of foul trouble. Plus the fact KU plays sounds fundamental defense (they will not try to play Anothony mano-y-mano as Texas tried, they will limit him using the team concept) and uses that defense to get easy baskets--it will be a long night for Syracuse. KU won't play as undisciplined versus Syrcause as Texas did on both sides of the ball. Unfortunatly the more physical UT would have been a much tougher match-up for Kansas--but honestly UT didn't deserve to advance the way they missed FTs and lacked focus. College BB is a game of match-ups, and this one doesn't work for the Cuse. I think Kansas will take charge in the 1/2 court using Collison 14-18 ft away, then when the Cuse gets panicky, Anthony or McNamar will finally start missing from long range and KU blows it open from easy transition baskets. KU wins going away: 10-15 point final margin. Its all too bad--it was all set for a UA-UT showdown--but those two favorites after Kentucky was out lost their focus while their opponents played like there was no tomarrow and seized the day. That is why they play the games.
In the Duke game, KU had trouble with the 2-3. Yes, Duke played a zone defense for bits and pieces of the game. The problem Cuse will have with their 2-3 against KU, is that KU sets up their offense so quickly, before defenses can set up. This creates mismatches as well.
Note my prediction earlier in this thread.(Cuse by 3) On a side note, I told my brother 'Cuse would win by either 3 or 6 and he laughed. C'mon 'Cuse prove me right.
