Didn't read the entire thread but I think global warming is crap. It's all a cycle. Look at the 'dust bowl' in the 1930's, the problems with locust and the long standing drought. You guys that are proglobal warming know about that? Look at the fact that Houston statistically gets a hurricane every 25 years. In this case, I see people hyping it up to create fear(and line their own pockets like Al Gore) so the governement can tax us for carbon credits. Kind of like using 9/11 scare tactics to gain public support for going in to Iraqi after 'WMD's'. I find it nothing more than creating public fear and panic to allow legislation to pass.

I think they get little bubbles trapped in the ice cores, and from these they measure the atmospheric composition (how much of what gas) from the distant past. Oxygen content, I think, gives you a really good idea of temperature, and you can also measure the CO2 content. They can get spots that are roughly two miles thick, going back to accumulations that are hundreds of thousands of years old. (courtesy lbl.gov)

I like that chart as well. Amazingly, despite the sample size of data being 400,000 years, that is still statistically insignificant in geological time.
