Scola IS NOT A EURO. Argentina is in South America last time I checked.

So you really think JVG wouldn't have played Manu if he was on the Rockets?

Plus his view on Scola/Odom seems to be inconsistent with his view on Battier/Gay.

Yes, Odom's been on some playoff teams, and sure, the Lakers at full strength, with Bynum healthy and playing at least as good as earlier this year, that's a championship caliber team...but none of that is because of Lamar Odom. The guy is just kind of out there...not a winner, not a loser. Scola, on the other hand, strikes you as most definitely a winner.

So Jeff would do the Battier/Gay trade every time but then changes his view for Scola/Odom.

I, personally, would not trade Scola for Odom straight up.

Acquiring Mike Miller would be awesome, though. The guy's like the starter version of Kyle Korver.

Mike James seems to have a hard time finding the "out hole."

Even guys who were allegedly "doghoused" last season-- Spanoulis, Bonzi-- got their run. They just played themselves right back into the doghouse.

Didn't Andre Barrett get a start as a rookie under JVG? It was JVG who helped get Barrett a Rockets contract. Barrett was working out for the Knicks in the pre-season as a undrafted player JVG was spending his summer there and attended those workouts. He even gave Barrett props in a NY paper during that time.

If a coach likes a player he'll get more chances. If he's euro JVG will mock him. From V-Mac to...

JVG likes Odom's game, particularly as a PF. Whenever he does Lakers games, he's always very complimentary of his skills. I think he likes his versatility as a 4-man ... very good rebounder and ball-handler at that position.

There was that one big foreign guy on JVG's team who got a lot of playing time last season.

I am seeing this differently from you. That's fine.

When mj does get court time he seals the 'out hole' a little tighter. James needs to go to...Detroit. Shame there's no there there for a deal.

    LMAO

You won't find a lot of symapthizers for Mirsad Turkcan on this board. JVG was spot on with those comments. We all know that.

Sheesh. No, he's not a Euro. But he played one on TV. Come on now. He played Euroball.

Jeff Van Gundy has a long established reputation of not playing players that are weak defensively.......and historically most Euros are weak defensively. Van Gundy has been very public about his disdain for this style and his belief that defense wins championships. It is also Jeff Van Gundy's long established belief that rookies get coaches fired. If he were here, Bonzi would not be here, Francis would not have come, and we sure would not have drafted Brooks and Landry or traded for Scola. If Van Gundy were still here, Morey would be working within the framework of bringing in some Kurt Thomas clone, some grisled veteran, that will do the dirty work, defend and rebound, and stand around and hit jump shots off the McGrady penetration and the 111 PnR. There's not anything necessarily wrong with that if it gets you a championship. But when it doesn't and you are constantly trying to improve one of the top 5 defensive units in the league while your offense is lagging with 2 of the top 10 offensive players in the NBA, then something don't add up. Van Gundy would do best when forced to coach and teach a team of great offensive players already in a great offensive system how to play defense. And he's a great strategist/tactician. But we ain't playing with robots. We're dealing with people. And Van Gundy has a difficult time connecting with any type of player except the single type player that fits his little mold. Van Gundy cannot deal with different molds. He's gotta find 12 that all fit one mold. He'd say it is the winning mold. But really it is the Gundy labeled winning mold. There are a lot of different winning molds. And the greatest coaches can adapt their styel to fit the molds they are given to work with.

Enough of Van Gundy. We wouldn't have 5 or 6 of these guys on the team if he was still here. Team would look totally different.

You're ridiculous. We wouldn't have drafted Landy and Brooks? What?? JVG has said in the past he's had very little input in draft matters - he leaves that to his gm/scouts. *MAYBE* Morey wouldn't have drafted Brooks, but only because RA really wanted him. Morey might have had someone else in mind. I agree with you about Bonzi/Francis not being here though. Why wouldn't we have traded for Scola again? OH right, because you say he doesn't like foreign players with very little to back it up. Everyone knew Scola was a player - besides that, we traded VSPAN FOR SCOLA. Not exactly a trade JVG would nix. Scola is actually a pretty good defender if you watch him. He's played the likes of Boozer and Duncan and did a good job - there's no doubt in my mind he'd be starting for JVG as well. You're really reaching with this argument against JVG here.

Odom is a better talent than Scola.

I would guess not since you've posted nothing of substance, just the same old rhetoric from the previous four years that was proved wrong over and over. Agree to disagree.

That's just it. Guys who don't perform when they get time tend to not get time in future, either, no matter who the coach is.
