i love jvg as a coach and as a person. love his dry sense of humor.

the guy is just a bit too stubborn. and that did him in last summer.

But that trade wouldn't work straight up. JVG's approach is always "win now". The Rockets are being smart ... they want to win now, but they are aware that they shouldn't give away all their valued assets haphazardly.

I don't think we can get Odom in exchange for Scola without giving up one of our other rookies and probably other assets as well. And as talented as Odom is, he's a bit of a flake and he's very inconsistent. I understand where JVG is coming from, but I wouldn't like that deal.

Lol... how did Nick Van Exel's name get brought up out of nowhere? Totally off topic... was he being interviewed on the show too??

I don't think he was looking at the semantics of the trade as opposed to saying - Scola is a really good player, but I also wouldn't label him untouchable if a player like Odom comes along. I wouldn't part with Landry/Brooks in addition to Scola either, but I don't think JVG was getting down into the nuts and bolts of the trade - just a simple statement.

Nick does a show on 1560 every morning. Not sure if he was there along with JVG, but recently Nick made a sarcastic "Yeah, he's a great coach" comment after saying that JVG preferred to bring in Derek Anderson over him.

Uh, what? Rocket fans overvalue their own players too much.

The only thing Scola has over Odom right now is (perceived) durability and maybe a few more nifty post moves. I'd do that trade any day of the week and twice on Sundays. More reason why JVG is smarter than you all.

    No Scola for Odom!!!

If Scola was a laker, it would guarantee the lakers to win the ring!

You're welcome for the recap, I had some series digit pain trying to keep up.

I love JVG as an announcer, very witty and fun to listen to, that being said, I still disagree with some of his takes.

Scola is one of them, on one hand JVG talks about players that are overvalued by doing stuff on crappy teams then says it is more about winning team ball.

Well, Scola has won EVERYWHERE he has ever been, the guy is a flat out winner......

Odom is exactly the type of player that JVG was talking about in putting up good numbers on a crappy team..........

So while Odom has more athleticism....there is not a chance in hell I would make an Odom for Scola trade.

Thanks for the recap. I agree w/ most everything JVG said, save the Scola/Odom comment.

    Thanks, DaD...

I loved the tanking thingy from JVG - love it, love it, love it! Of course, how close did Rox get to Roy as a straight up pick? OK, but still love the idea!

Just curious: if they were both signed to 3 yr/10mil contracts or 3 yr/gabillion $ deals, but the operative here is 'both', whom do you take?

For me, Scola. I can't predict his future but Odom's heart doesn't always (seem to) tick quick. Man, I'd love LO with Chuck Hayes' heart (and Luis' hair :D ). (Yeah, yeah, we've tried to genetically engineer lotsa guys, like Stro, for ex.)

JVG would trade Scola because Scola would be riding the pine if JVG were the coach while Hayes banged away for 30 minutes a night.

OMG I know right!! Just look at the AWESOME rookies JVG never played!!

    2003 - Malick Badiane
    2004 - V-Span
    2005 - Luther Head
    2006 - Steve Novak & Lior Eliyahu
    ----------------------------------
Nevermind Luther played 29 min his first year though. [But we were hurt and forced to play him!]

Nevermind Luther played 28min his second year then. [But JVG doesn't play ROOKIES, not SOPHOMORES!]

You've been here long enough to know the whole JVG doesn't play rookies thing is stupid. Shame on you.

You don't understand. If it wasn't for JVG, all those guys would have been stars by now. Keep up.

Adelman v JVG? Suffice it to say Adelman's doghouse has both an in hole and an out hole. JVG's? You supply the punchline.

No, it's the Euro thing. Van Gundy has stated he doesn't like Euro players. I seriously doubt if Scola would have even been traded for if Van Gundy was the coach. GM is not going to trade for a guy that he knows coach has a bias agaisnt and probably isn't going to play.

That's fine if that's your opinion, I just ask for evidence. What good European player has JVG not played that made it somewhere else? And please don't say VSpan. So you've now gone from hates rookies to hates Euros. I'm sure if there was a player who worked hard and made our team better, JVG wouldn't hesitate to put him in. Hell, I bet he'd love Scola - look how hard he hustles. That was a reason why he preferred Chuck - hustle points.
