i would've stuck an extra 16.78mhz ARM RISC processor, saaaay... the ARM7TDMI in it for extra performance purposes, then "accidently" release the data sheets.

on a totally unrelated note... psps' with 1.5 firmware are selling for 300+ bux these days.

    Che is just crazy. :p

Yeah, I have only heard good things about Gizmodo here, seems mostly because DD has a part in it. May be a good GPS, but I wouldn't market it as a gaming machine/"PSP KILLER" like was originally talked about.

I'm not sure if that one is v1.5 though. It might be, but I didn't see it listed anywhere on the page.

That said, I did quick search on eBay for v1.5 PSPs and I didn't really see too many going for $300+, and those that were usually had extras included (usually a 1GB Pro Duo). Maybe I missed a bunch of them, but it seems like most of them were going in the $200-$300 range.

I don't seem to have any problems finding any. There's even some "limited edition" PSPs (basically value pack plus Spiderman UMD) left over from the NA launch apparently for ~$230 (plus S&H):

That particular seller seems to have several of them up for bid at eBay.

edit: Eh...these looked like they've been opened. Can't tell if they've been used.

Yeah, the England ones wouldn't be what I'd be looking for. I'm not even sure exactly what a PSP retails for over there...might be over the $250 it costs here, which might explain why the price is higher....wait...I don't even think the UK got any 1.5 systems...so I guess they're probably trying to sell them off to other people in Europe.

Either way, I'd stick to the US sellers. Here's another one as well for ~$240, although again the box was opened (just to check the system's condition and the serial number according to the seller):

With each firmware upgrade, Sony made it harder to use homebrew apps (including emulators). 1.5 is the version of all the PSPs that were sold in March, when the PSP launched, and that's when most of the "hacking" started. So 1.5 is pretty important since that's what most of the programs are designed around. There is also the v1.0 firmware that the Japanese PSPs had, but I don't think there is really that much of a difference between it and 1.5 from a homebrew perspective (might even be better to upgrade to 1.5).

Me too, and Gizmondo is going to SUPPORT Homebrew...assuming we make it of course.

Honestly, DaDa, I'm sorry to say I don't think the odds are very good. I haven't read a single good review of Gizmondo (and I have a subscription to pretty much every gaming magazine there is).

Hope you have an excellent exit strategy. :(

For the PSP "noobs", it doesn't matter if you have 1.5 firmware or not. They already found a program that can downgrade the 2.+ version down to 1.5. So basically you can downgrade your 2.+ firmware to play Prince of Persia, NBA Live, etc. on the 1.5 firmware from your memory stick and upgrade back up to 2.0 to play GTA or Socom from your memory stick (how do you do this and where? google is your answer) And they already hacked 2.6 firmware.

As for Gizmondo....sorry to hear about it dadakota. I hope everything works out for you.

That is because we have not marketed the product at all......IF we get the refi, that will all change.

And, we are NOT a gaming device, we are a lifestyle product that plays games.

    No,

Gizmondo Europe filed for bankruptcy protection. Gives us a chance to re-org while we are securing long term funding.

This is the best possible news I could have, we are actually going to get a new managment team and get the product moving into a positive direction.

I am THRILLED by the news...other than the fact that I have to cut my 2 Swedish studios.

    :(
