my son is has ASD, not Down; I admire Palin for being such a visible, and visibly strong advocate for her child, and I can't fathom the hatred that strength seems to inspire in the left. nothing more.
I hate being baited into such stupidity, but its such a ridiculous claim to say people hate this woman because of her son. the only people making an issue out of this are the wingers. its paranoia at its finest
i think it's awesome she had trig. i also think it's awesome that she admitted she struggled with the decision over whether to abort or not. it shows she can admit weakness, which doesn't seem to come with the territory for her too often. that said, i bet she's an excellent mom to trig, and i don't see her using him as a prop or anything - my lack of support for her just comes from other issues.

I agree with finals post entirely. Nicely done. What's so wrong in admiring her for the strength it takes to raise a child with developmental challenges and the support she shows for her family while disagreeing vehemently with her politically or thinking she's a fool on pretty much everything else? Or just ignoring her altogether? I know Basso has an odd history of antagonism, but the original article was, I though, a pretty decent account of the joys that can come from such a situation. There are a tonne of very complex issues around choosing to continue a pregnancy when there's a good chance your child may have developmental issues. But Sam and Donny pretty much set the tone with their pavlovian response to anything Palin or Basso. Included in the maelstrom of the next dozen pages are Sam's (brilliantly sarcastic ) reference to needing to be stupid to raise a disabled child, to one poster stating it was ignorant and selfish to even give birth to such a child. All amid the chuckling and backslapping about a child with a disability and the rise and fall of the new kid on the block: Granville. Awesome. Giggly giggly about the 'tard. Hahahaha. I know its all in 'fun.' And I know 'he started it.' But I just don't find this BS funny at all. If you're tired of anything Palin, or if you think Basso's not worthy of your response -- skip the damn threads. Apologies for the rant. It's just that I find this crap extremely offensive.

Then don't click on the thread - you knew this was going to be a dumping ground from the thread title and the thread starter. You've been around here a long time - probably not as long as "newcomer" Granville, but long enough to know that the whole "you hate disabled babies" meme has been bassmaster's calling card here for quite a while. I guess he starts this in order to attempt to get people banned or something - I don't really know. You're probably right in that ideally I should just ignore his garbage and move on, but then, you didn't ignore either, you clicked on the thread. Not that much different.
My apologies to you for anything that I've said that offended you. I got sick of watching folks bully their opinions down the throat of others.
You forgot to mention your rep point superiority and then imply that somehow makes you the enlightened one in every thread that you participate in. One of the first posters in this thread thought you might need an asswhoopin.. Well you got one. Along the way my faith in the inherent goodness of the majority of the forum was restored rrom some expected and unexpected sources.
