Hibbert is still not worth max money. I don't get the hype. He's been playing against midgets/scrubs in both series. He's barely a top-10 center, if that.
What if the Rockets offered the max? Indiana would match? Nevermind. He likes where he is at and Morey already insulted him by threatening him with D league.
Most nba centers are midgets or scrubs. Dwight, Bynum, Gasol, Pekovic, Monroe and Gortat are the only other legit centers in tha nba (Bogut would be also, but he's injured frequently). Hibbert's better than most of them. He's getting the max.
In no partiular order: Howard Bynum M.Gasol Duncan P.Gasol Bogut T.Chandler Noah Gortat Horford Nene Monroe Varejao Camby How many of them are clearly worse than Hibbert?
On that list that you just posted, there are only 4 players you can honestly make a list for. Marcus Camby <---that is just pure homerism. Are you kidding me?
I see you don't put a whole lot of value in pick&roll defense and rebounds. Also, with Hibbert you'll never as many minutes out of him as with most of these other guys. He's 7'2 and gets fatigued quickly. Do you really think a guy that will always play around 30 minutes a game is worth the max?
So, let me get this straight you are going to alienate all the OTHER things that players are supposed to offer in favor of pick & roll defense and rebounds? I think Hibbert does more than an admirable job on pick&roll defense and rebounds. Again, I have to ask, have you been watching the playoffs lately? Hibbert has absolutely been beasting it on the defensive end and grabbing a crap ton of rebounds. You want to talk about fatigue? I'm pretty sure all those big men playing 30+ minutes would get "fatigued". Lets put this into perspective for you. Roy Hibbert made the All-Star team this year. There were 4 centers selected. Dwight Howard, Andrew Bynum, Marc Gasol, and Roy Hibbert. When you aren't voted in as a starter by the fans, you are selected by the coaches. This further validates the fact that Roy Hibbert is considered one of the premiere big men in the league. Unless you are able to judge talent better than all of the coaches in the NBA, your compilation of players is absolutely ludicrous.
Hibberts numbers this year are very close to Mark Gasol's. He might score a point or two less but his efficiency is much higher. He has also been the anchor to a top 3 team in the east. I don't see what there isn't to like. Not that we actually have a shot at landing him. I would be shocked.
Of course not. But it's those are two very important facets of the game Hibbert is average at best at, whereas some of the other guys you so quickly dismissed are pretty good at. Sure. But not to the point where you have to pull them from the game. Hibbert's stamina/conditioning is simply bad compared to other bigs. Most of the good centers play in the West. Most of the good centers from the East were injured. The Pacers had a good record, which is usually a big factor for coaches. So, Hibbert made the All-Star team. Big deal. Jamaal Magloire made the All-Star team as well. Chris Kaman was an All-Star once. It's a rather useless fact, that you have to put into context. I knew I'd get flack for going with the unpopular opinion. That's fine. I'm just telling you how I see it.
I think Hibbert is somewhere between #7-10 on the overall Centers list. I'd rather try to get Gortat.
Hibbert is not a max player. He will not give you 100% effort every night. He does not get his hands up unless he thinks theres a chance to block a shot. He walks like he's 50 years old. This guy as a max player would be a disaster.
Nothing wrong with having an opinion, but as you had so mentioned, by pick and roll defense and rebounding are two important aspects, you are ignoring all the OTHER aspects of the game (passing, shot-blocking, good footwork, offensive prowess). You can't honestly argue that Hibbert isn't a good rebounder. He his a heck of a rebounder. You lost a lot of credibility when you threw Camby on the list and asked if anybody could honestly justify that Hibbert wasn't better than those on the list. I think even you know that at least half those guys you put on the list were reaches. Nobody is saying that Hibbert is the BEST center in the league, but he is definitely one of the premiere big men in the league. Most of the best Centers play in the West? Honestly, aside from Bynum and Gasol, who exactly are you referring to? Gortat? It doesn't look like any of them showed up on your list. When you see guys like Haywood making close to $10 million a year, Nene making $13 million a year, Gasol (not a center) making nearly $20 million a year, you can very easily justify paying Hibbert $12-13 million a year. He's only 25 years of age and is still developing as a player. It would be well worth the investment for a young center that will be playing for at least the next decade.
Hahaha, are you suggesting we steal Indiana's assets and package them for Dwight Howard? I think they would ship Hibbert for Howard in a heartbeat as that could potentially make them contenders.
