Is there any over the counter drug similar to Inderal available without a prescription? Or is Inderal pretty much the gold standard for jitters/nervousness in speeches/etc?

edit: my sources in the pentagon tell me you could obtain inderal from a hypothetical countries pharmacies, such as for the sake of playing along, "canada". how effective are these "mythical" online pharmacies?

Anti-anxiety drugs are, for the most part, prescription only.
Atenolol is another type of beta blocker, like inderal, that can do the job. Also, Benzodiazepines are other drugs you could use that have anti-anxiety effects as well. But, you need the prescription to get your hands on it.

Im not too knowledgeable about getting drugs from other countries...Im sure someone else would know more about it than me. However, it does cost less and I dont see why it wouldnt be as effective.

appreciate the answer. i was mainly looking to just getting around the doctor part of it since i couldn't really see the need for taking them in any situations aside from high pressure ones (ironically, maybe on dates sometimes). you know the whole drill, you go to the doctor, you suddenly feel guilty "do i really need this?" and almost end up asking the doctor "so what do you recommend for anxiety, etc?" and then they end up either sending you home or prescribing something that came out in the 18th century (like traxene), lol.

If you tell a doctor, probably a psychiatrist, about anxiety issues, then it shouldnt be too difficult to get a prescription. Anxiety problems are very prevalent in our society, so its not a big deal to go get some help.

Inderal is great and can be used for many occasions...such as dates or meeting your girlfriends parents for the first time. :D

The good thing with inderal is this...I have mostly used it for 2 types of occasions, speeches being one of them. I had a series of seminars I had to run that spanned over 2 months. I began on 20 mg and it did wonders for me. However, as time goes on, the same dosage becomes less and less effective as your body adapts to it...However, my brain is still telling me that Im on it, so even though the effectiveness decreases with the same dosage, Im still not feeling the anxiety that I used to feel. I slowly got to the point where I no longer needed the Inderal and was fine without it. It helped me overcome that "fear" I used to have. Now, I dont need anything to get up in front of people and talk.

    Drugs are fun.

I took a Valium before a 10 minute oral presentation in a Spanish class. I got a 99 on it. It didn't completely make the nerves go away. But, it helped.

I've recently been going to a psychologist to work on my social anxiety, but it hasn't been doing anything for me. I first thought that it was a minor problem that I could easily overcome. She is now recommending that I try hypnotherapy. I wish someone would just give me some drugs!

As someone who has experience with social anxiety, I've found that drugs like Paxil and Effexor help in managing your social anxiety on a daily basis, but for me did not stop the panic attacks I would feel in certain situations such as giving a speech. In those cases I would take a beta blocker. This would help a lot, but like everyone else, you will still feel a little nervousness.

For those that say to just suck it up, you have no idea what social anxiety can feel like. It's like Tom Cruise telling women that post partum is not real. It's not easy to give a speech when your whole body freezes up, panic attacks will do this to you. And the whole thing about the more speeches you give the easier it will get, did not work for me either. It gradually got worse and worse. That's why I would recomend to see a doctor. Go over the symptoms of Social Anxiety to see if that is what you have or is it just the normal nervousness that most feel.

I agree- it is completely natural to be nervous in front of a crowd. Do not take anything. Focus on a person -cute woman -in the middle of the crowd with a friendly face. Make a point early to insure confidence. The flow will get going then.

You will appear much more authentic if you are somewhat nervous at the beginning.

    You will do fine

By the way- I am nervous as a w**** in church giving a speech. I seldom sleep the night before.
