No need to get snitty about it...I dont know...and I said as much..

AFAIK---means "as far as I know"

what that means is that I was unsure when I said it, therefore I said so..If you just meant to correct my assumption..fine

I think the Chinese voters are a real wild card. I don't know if a lot will vote or not. If they do, Yao will be the starter, to the embarrasment of the league and O'Neal. But, I doubt he'd play many minutes in the game. If they don't, he won't be selected by the coaches because he's a rookie.

I don't know why Divac is getting so much disrespect here. He is easily the best center after O'Neal in the West, not counting Tim Duncan (who really is a center even if he doesn't want to admit it). A few other centers have some decent stats, but looking at actual quality of play, they don't hold a candle to Divac. I don't think there is any question that Divac will be an all-star. I think the question is who will be center #3, if any? It'll be Yao if he's the starter; but, if he's not, they'll only have 2 centers and play a couple PFs in that position -- like Duncan.

Btw, why no mention of Kelvin Cato as a possibility?

Cato is good but I don't think he's all-star calibre.

I agree with you that Ming won't get enough votes over Shaq, even if he will get a strong support from his fans in China . There is one little thing I want to say, though. The term Mandarin refers only to the spoken language, which only some of Chinese use when they talk. But when they write or read, they all use the same Language, which shold be properly called "Chinese". So the Chinese version of the AllStar ballot should work for every individual Chinese voter, no matter he or she speaks Mandarin or not.

You are wrong, although Mandarin is mainly spoken in mainland
China, there are only two versions of Chinese, simplified and traditional. Most Chinese can read both versions.

Yao Ming may get the starter position in the All-Star Poll, don't
underestimate the votes from China. Mainland alone has 50 millions surfers, only second to USA. Provided Basketball is a very popular sport in China, and every Chinese sports website is promoting Yao, even a small portion of Chinese Internet users vote Yao, he may easily surpass Vince Carter or whoever in the league. After all, last year's leader Vince Carter had less than 2 million votes.

I don't think Yao deserve starter position at this time, but if he really make it, don't be surprised.

No, I don't think Steve should be in any more dunk contests...He's trying to move away from the high flying/dunking image that a lot of young NBA players seem to have. Besides, he was royally screwed by the wheel of stupidity last year...

How are the All-Rookie team and Rookie of the Year award selected? Haven't seen any polls so far where we can vote like the All-Star game.

    Anyone?!?!?!

If Yao Ming were voted as starter, would he decline?
