Just for the record, though I'm not a lawyer, I went and looked at the texas penal code, and both of the offenses mentioned (brandishing the gun at the guy and smacking Hererra with a weight) seem to qualify as Aggravated Assault, a second degree felony under section 22.02 of the Texas penal code. Second degree felonies are punishable by terms of 2 to 20 years each.

It is therefore not entirely unreasonable to say that under a different set of circumstances he might not be still suffering for these violations, as he could have been given two maximum sentances for a total of 40 years as a guest of the department of corrections.

Boy, sure 'lot of assumptions going on up there.

First, I never said I "hated" Vernon. Not at all, I am pretty indifferent to him. I am just pointing out the fact that if he doesn't get his number retired, I really don't care yet I wouldn't be surprised.

Secondly, who is buying into it? I pointed out the fact that this happens, that NBA players are held to higher standards, so I realize that it occurs but by no means does that indicate that I buy into it. Its just how things go right now. Is it going to change anytime soon? Nope.

With that said, its not the fault of the media that Vernon ran up to the stands and punched a fan or swung a freeweight at a teammate or... whatever. Again, that was Vernon Maxwell, not the media manipulating the story as something more than what it was.

NBA players don't owe me jack... but then who do they owe? Where do their responsibilities begin and end? Sorry DavidS, but you are living in a world that doesn't exist. FACT: NBA players are role models and "regular" people are impressionable. Today, being in the public light dictates what one does and doesn't. Is it right? Nope. Is it reality? Yep.

Guess what? Its not me wearing the Tracy McGrady jerseys or Allen Iverson jerseys to games... alot of those happen to be impressionable kids.

    See there!

You are arguing against your own conclusion!

The higher standard you are talking about
his the higher standard that you have place
    on him!

So, tell me again....that you're not buying
    into it!

You say it's wrong, yet you believe in it
by holding him to that standard in your
own mind. Maybe this "higher standard"
    is your higher-standard.

Remember, I'm not saying what what he
did wasn't wrong. It's just that the media
demonizes him to the point were it looses
    reality.

    Just say no to lemmings.
