I think Patterson is more likely to stick while Hill has the higher upside. It's pretty much a toss up, but since the Rockets are in win now mode, I'd probably keep the guy in which you have the most confidence. To me, that's Patterson.
That's my point. The physical attributes are there for a lot of players(the one's I listed) but all failed to live up due to lacking something upstairs. Meanwhile there are plenty of examples of players lacking physical attributes, but make up for it through smart play. We have/had plenty of those on the Rockets: Hayes, Battier, Landry. All either too short or too slow. I think Morey has proven through his actions that he values "the ability to play ball" over purely physical advantages.
I am hoping he DOESNT have a break through year (i know thats evil and selfish) that way when he is a FA, he wont attract too many teams and will come back and be our 6th man again ... then we can all get together and sing .. reunited and it feels so good!
I would give up Hill. While Hill probably having greater upside, I'm not so sure he's going to reach his full potential. What I've seen from Hill is someone who's going to play better moving toward the basket, can't create for himself and has an inconsistent jumper. Defensively he seems to make up ground on the weak side and is able to block some shots, but gets pushed around underneath the basket with his man D. Will the light turn on, I'm not seeing it so far. PP I believe is going to give you consistency in everything he does. Patterson's all around game seems to be a bit more polished. I think you'll get more from him night in and night out on both sides of the floor. Thinking about this a little more, with Hill you can almost see him thinking on the court, ok I have to be in this spot or I should do this. There is no natural feel to Hill's game. I'm sure it has to do with starting to play the game late. PP is a player, he has that feel to his game, I think he will only improve.
i like Hill a lot and he does have great upside, but I don't think he will ever reach his full potential (i.e. the potential of a guy with his size and athleticism). While he does improve his fundamentals year to year, he still makes the same mistakes over and over again. That being said, I want to see Pat in some real NBA games before making a definite decision. Pats size and strength, along with his polished all around game, really make for a quality PF.
Hell, I'd trade both if it sealed a Melo trade. I don't have a lot of faith in Hill's determination to maximize his potential, but I do like that he has a great frame and athleticism for the F/C position. I never want to see him post up, but he can be effective on the offensive boards and be a good help defender if he works on it. He's a career backup, but could become a productive 7-7 guy if he models himself after Chris Anderson (minus the obvious). I'm hopeful Patterson can emerge as a strong backup for Scola, but we need to see how he does against real competition before making any judgements. I think it's a safer pick for us to hold on to Patterson - I see a lot of Battier in his mental makeup - and that goes a long way. In Hill I see at least a touch of Stromile.
What ever gets the superstar in the fold. Case close. But I would rather keep the guy Morey picked. Beside, Hill doesn't look ready to be backup C and Rockets have a good backup for now. And I forget there is Chuck. He is not bad as a backup PF. I think he is better than Hill and Pat now. Yes, cannot score but the d. If a monster trade takes out both Hill and Pat, that's OK. Between Melo, Martin and Brooks, the PF don't have to score, and don't forget there is Yao in the middle. Also, Chuck can do OK around basket when left alone, which will happen alot with Yao in the game.
I'd keep PPat because he's versatile and can slide over to the 3 if needed. We've got Miller now, so the center position is not the greatest need anymore (if we trade Buddier & Jeffries in the deal with Melo).
I'd rather keep the guy that has shown he can go up against the big front lines in the NBA... Hill has a higher potential and also a higher risk of being a bust. Patterson is clearly the more intelligent player and has better work ethics. These two attributes will keep a player consistently contributing for a long time. Plus, Patterson seems to be more versatile, a good trait for Adelman's system. I like Hill too, and hope we'll keep him. But if one of them is going to be traded for a star player, I definitely hope they don't give up Patterson.
I don't care who they would take. I would give them both to keep Chase. I'm affraid we are going to lose Chase and I DO NOT won't to lose him.
Please if Denver wanted both you would give them away in a heartbeat... Both still unproven and both are not legit all-star players... It's not hard at all..
I agree, but that's not going to happen. The Nugs wouldn't want two bigs, and Bud wouldn't be getting a ton of time here anyway.
I say give up Hill. I think when you are talking about getting a superstar player and instantly going into "win now" mode, potential doesn't matter much unless you are talking about All-Star or Franchise Player potential. Hill doesn't have that much potential. Plus Patterson is much more built to contribute now on a "win now" minded team.
