lol nice analogy.. but its just not exactly true to the real life scenario. Presenting them as "2 burgers" is presenting them as equal performances, when there really isn't anything equal about it.

Yao had a rather quiet 15-pt first half. He didn't shoot particularly well (4-10), he saw half of his pts at the free throw line, and the team didn't ignite off of his play -- seen by us being down by 9 and looking thoroughly confused as we walked into the locker rooms after shooting at 30% half while Utah looked confident.

McGrady, on the contrary, had a very loud third quarter. He scored 16 points on excellent shooting (7-8), hitting big shot after big shot, encouraging both the crowd and his teammates (even Yao  ) while discouraging the Jazz. His play in that quarter took control of the game and gave our team the confidence to play better and ultimately win -- seen by our FG% rising to over 50% (great shooting opens up the floor for others).

Not exactly the same burger. Secondly, nobody is asking "why bother buying 2 burgers?" -- what is being said and what was done by all media outlets recapping the game is acknowledging the most important player in winning the game. It is not in any way a dismissal of Yao's performance, nor of any other Rockets player. We all know "it takes 5" (well, with JVG, 8) to win, but to believe that those 5 are each contributing the same 20% is utter foolishness, and in this game, Tracy's % was highest, and there's nothing wrong with acknowledging that. That doesn't take out the rest of the players from the equation.

Journalists only have so much space for a headline, that it would be impossible to recap two very different burgers in the same space. So what exactly would you like the headlines to read? "Yao's steady first half leaves the Rockets down 9"?

I agree it is team sport but I disagree that credit for players is irrelevant. Fans care about the credit and so do players themselve because we are all human being.

As a long time Lakers fan(do not flame me, I am just telling the trueth) I have seen a lot of stuff between kobe and shaq. I beleive it started out with one player felt he did not get fair recognization and tried hard to prove he deserved more. And we all know what happened.

While Yao and Tmac will never go that far, whether because of their personalities or becase they do not have the luxury(time and acheivement), It is going to have negative effect on the team's performance. As a Rockets fan(how can I be both Lakers fan and Rockets fan?) that is the last thing I want to see.

Good chemistry does not just come with personality and maturity. Fairness is ahead of them, among others.

To go a little bit farther, do you see the difference in Tmac's talk before the miami game and after? He seems to have tried to emphasis some thing since then. And to me that is not a good sign.

Yao is the reason I am here but I am not a YOF. I say it as I see it as a Rockets fan. I just want to get something straight before it gets worse. I know my word does not count much yet I tried. That is the way a fan should be in my opinion.

You guys crack me up. No, seriously. You do.

    Here's the bottom line.

    1) There will be Rocket Fans who will be Yao fans first most. I undestand that. I dont have a problem with that.

    2) There will be Rocket Fans who will be Tmac fans first most. I understand that. I dont have a problem with that.

    3) There will be Rockets Fans who will be Rocket fans first and are open to praise or criticism for anyone on the team. I understand this one the best and obviously this group is the one i will never have any problem with.

I fall in category 3 BUT I accept the fact there will always be people in group 1 and 2.

What gets me though is when people in group 1 and group 2 start going against each other and retort with name calling.

    Here's the recent trend....

Rockets64 will pick a fight with some Yao fan or make Tmac sound like a saviour....yao fans will retaliate...Blazer_ben will come to rescue...Both sides will call each other out and retort by name calling....both sides will accuse each other of name calling...

    It's a vicious cycle!

Sheesh...Quit attacking posters when someone criticizes your favorite player! You are not your favorite player's body guard. They don't know you. You do not make a difference in their lives!

Last night, both played a vital role. Tmac disappeared in first half but was brilliant in second half. Yao was solid thru out the game.

Without Yao, the game would have been over by halftime.

Without Tmac, Rockets would not have made a comeback and stretched the lead.

Without me, my girlfriend would be single.

BOTH YAO AND TMAC ARE NEEDED FOR THIS TEAM TO SUCCEED (along with role players stepping up). NEITHER ONE IS GREATER THAN THE OTHER.

I AM THE GREATEST! *kpow* *bam*

Those "rather quiet 15-pt first half" kept the lead from being more than nine. We were lucky the deficit wasn't more than nine considering Yao was the only Rocket to show up in the half.

I have no problem with McGrady getting more publicity ... He got on an incredible roll in the second half. However don't dimish Yao's contributions to backhanded jabs for the team being down nine at the half.

This debate is getting old and is very annoying. I can promise you Tracy knows what Yao did and was appreciative that he showed up. In the fourth quarter, after Yao made his two free-throws to close the game, Tracy put his arm around Yao's waist and walked along side him to the bench. Tracy knows. The only people who seem to not know are posters such as yourself.

Putting down everyone else's contributions? Calling Rafer's three's "huge," Juwan's last second shot and scores in the second half "pivotal," and Yao's 15 pts "huge" is downplaying their contributions? Are you sure want to institute a test to get on this board? Because you're making it pretty clear you would fail.

LOL @ "playing up" T-Mac's performance. I guess Tracy did not have an 0-6 shooting, 6 assist 1st half, and a 16 pt 3rd quarter that shifted the game into our hands and got our team going.

It is NOT a backhanded jab. I've already said, Yao's 15 pts were huge, and that the team (that includes more than Yao and Tracy) won the game. But for some reason, you guys are too overly sensitive of someone other than Yao having the most important role in the win that it blinds you from seeing that! Actually, thats another point -- "most important" role implies that there are other roles being played.

And yes, shooting 4 for 10 over 24 minutes, starting out 3 for 4 in the first five minutes and then missing your next five shots until making your 10th shot 15 minutes after your last made shot, is a rather quiet way at attaining 15 points. They still were important points though, as all points are.

I hate to get into this senseless debate but I have to say this Rock_Johnson's post is probably the most r****ded one that I have read on this board in the last 4 years.

Whatever. You obviously don't get what I and others have seen in your responses because I am not the only one. All I have to say is don't assume that those that respond to you have a problem with someone other than Yao having an important role in the win. Maybe ... just maybe it's what you post. I'm as neutral as they come when it comes to Mac and Yao and give the glory to both.

This is ridiculous. You do not down play Yao's points this way. as basketball101, I am telling you: The points made by FT have more value than made by FG because they have the extra equalty of the opponent personal foul and team foul. The personal foul can affect your opponent's play and the team foul can benefit your team later in the game.

I do not what else to say...

If you can read, the OP is not sensitive of "someone other than Yao having the most important role in the win". He only has problem with posts like this one:

we also can see that from the 4th qrt, when yao is on the bench, they still can control the situation. this scenario is very like the beginning of this season. so logically yao is not essential for rockets. but my opining is we dont need to find a substitute, at least Yao is no harm to rockets. i like the big guy.."

I am sure you can see it too if you can read.

Then all I have to say is that don't you assume that all peoples defending the right to acknowledge what Tracy did for us in that game are ignorant to what Yao did for us in the game. ESPECIALLY when it is so clearly laid out to you ("and Yao's 15 pts were points were certainly huge for us"). Maybe, just maybe, its your ability to comprehend, or to recall what you've just read.
I agree... but does it make the points any less quiet? No. Points are loud and demoralizing when they are scored in rapid succession, and are quiet when they are distanced. Tracy's scored 13 points a million times, but somehow they were louder when he did it in 35 seconds.

lol wow... if you could read, you would see that the people I claimed that were overly sensitive were those that were calling my comments a backhanded jab at Yao. They were overly sensitive because the slight negative of "rather quiet" is somehow so terrible to ignore the positive of "huge." Nothing in response to the OP.

    I also disagree with Rock_Johnson...

They don't agree with your comment doesn't mean they are overly sensitive. You are overly sensitive if you think everyone who don't agree with you are too sensitive.

Stop being so sensitive to other people's opinions. You have the right to state your opinions. And they also have their right to disagree with your opinions.

Good god... now where are you getting this from?

I did not say they were overly sensitive because they disagree with me. That's cool, its a discussion board, would be a pretty lame discussion if everyone was saying the same words. What I did say, however, is that they are overly sensitive because the small slight of "rather quiet" was enough to blind them of the compliments of "huge" and "important." Nothing at all to do with who agrees with who
