You know, it's really funny you say that. I was thinking yesterday, "Why doesn't Feigen write more columns?" Then, I realized that, if he wrote some scathing thing about the Rockets, would he still be able to get the players (or coaches) to talk to him like they do now?

Besides, Fran does a much better impersonation of a bad cop than Feigen probably could. :)

This is either the most brilliantly sarcastic, or foolishly serious thread in the history of the written word.

    Sarcasm or not :

It's far easier to write in ordinary prose than to consistantly conjure up relevant and brilliant metaphors to write about sports.

That quote had me rolling in the aisles.

The funny thing is, whether I agree with him or not, I always find his articles to be pointless. What he points out is either ridiculously obvious, melodramatic, or fluff.

Houston has ****ty sports columnists in general.

I do not find Blineberry's writing that interesting. Like Haven said- I seldom care what Blineberry writes about - as his topic is usually irrelevant. During the glory days of '93 to '97 - he sang Hakeem's praises. He became so repetitve and tired that I lost interst. His use of simile and metaphor is unimaginative, laborious, and wordy. He is a chore to read.

He is a poor writer. John Lopez and Feigen are much better. Read David Dupre in USA today on Mondays- on target and succicnt with plenty of entertainment quality.

Fran is irrelevant. He does not make me mad because I so seldom read him. He could come up with something inflammatory like Cuttino Mobely is really a woman and I would not take the time to read the article.

As a rule, when "people don't realize how extraordinary [somebody's] writing is", that's just because it isn't really extraordinary :D

Anyway, Fran's style isn't that hard to imitate. I recently posted a link in another Blinebury thread of a parody I wrote with Fran's style, but here is a little more shameless self-promotion again ;) :

The post in that thread took me a little less than 40 minutes to write. Hardly what I'd consider challenging.
