James White definitely has some potential. I think with a little development (both physical and mental) and some hard work on White's part, he could turn himself into a viable NBA player...maybe even a Gerald Wallace type. He definitely has an NBA body and seems to have all the necessary tools, skills, and attributes to succeed at this level. He probably needs to work on his ball handling, passing, defense, and maybe develop a couple of go to moves more than anything, but in an Adelman type system, he could be an asset slashing to the basket and attacking the rim. In general, it seems he just needs to refine his skills and maybe bulk up a little and get comfortable in a system to be viable. Best case scenario: Gerald Wallace? Worst case scenario: Gerald Green? James White seems promising.
Except James White would also play if we're on the RECEIVING end of a blowout too. Didn't see this game live. But will check out Rocket2k's video later to see how he played. But his handles definitely needs work if he got 3 TOs in 4 minutes.
I think the one thing people should keep in mind is that James White is 26 years old. He'll be 27 next season, if he stays on as a Rocket. I don't see him developing his game much beyond where it is right now. His skill set will be about the same. What will keep him in this league isn't how much he expands his game (the time for that is just about over), but rather how he adjusts mentally to playing at an NBA level. Can he play efficiently in our offensive system as a cutter and shooter? Does he run the floor hard? Can he consistently defend his position and not make bad mistakes? Does he play hard when he's on the floor, or does he have a tendency to fade in and out of games? These are the things that will determine if he can stay in the league.
look pretty solid. Can we have a lineup of Lowry/AB, Wafer, White, Artest and Scola? I want to see the team run as this group can run.
LOL. He could be Gerald Wallace, IF he improves: 1. ball handling 2. passing 3. defense 4. go-to moves What else is there? Jumping and shooting? Basically, if Steve Novak improved all of those things, he would be Gerald Wallace. Sorry but it made me laugh.
mann, he was so close to dunking twice in the game. once on an alley oop from barry, and the other one, driving to the basket, but had the ball poked away. but nonetheless, not bad. 2-2 from the field for 5 pts.
Wow. Am I the only one around here who could care less if White dunks as long as the Rockets win? I'm having trouble with the jumping up and down just because he made 2 shots. I mean, I'm all for him getting a chance, but I'm just not understanding the fetish.
i just wanna see the dude dunk. i've heard so much about him dunking and i just wanted to see for myself during a game. even clyde wanted to see it, lol. so just chill.
I just don't think White's going to do anything that we've never seen Green/Wafer/McGrady/Francis do before, you know? At least not in a game. *shrug*
It does sound like a lot so maybe I should've clarified my original post, but Novak has none of those things. What I meant was that White obviously has some of those skills, he just needs to refine them so that they're better than what they are now. The 4 skills above were what I thought he should work the hardest on. I think he has the ability to do so whereas a player like Novak does not.
white used to play a little point for cincinatti and the coaching staff there did say he had a good work ethic as well as his d league coaches
You're right, nevertheless he should try his best to work on his handles, passing etc along with the rest of the things that you mentioned.
In my opinion, White was just unsure of himself in last night's game. He wasn't getting to his spots on offense right away, and looked unsure who to pick up in transition defense a couple of times. He also didn't look comfortable putting the ball on the floor. I did like the fairly quick release and the ease of his shooting stroke. I doubt he'll ever see meaningful minutes for the Rockets, but it never hurts to have an athletic freak with some shooting touch as your 14th or 15th man on the bench.
To the first, he'll only be 27 next year if he remains a Rocket? I essentially agree with your larger point. His NBAworthiness will be determined not byphysical maturation - that's pretty much there by now but rather NBAworthy fit-in-edness. To the Q re: Wafer insurance - I expect Wafer to be Landry II except with a much, MUCH quicker resolution. Unless he blows up in the p/o he should be resignable for 3/2.5mm per, I'd think.
