Edited^ PS. he also could've been a track star in college too but chosed B-ball so he has the quickness and speed. The guy is a world class athlete.
James White is an interesting player. He is one of the best dunkers to ever play the game, and he has a nice looking jumper. He went to college so his skills should be fairly refined and his IQ seems to be much higher than the likes of Gerald Green. I hope he sticks because he has unlimited potential. I agree with those who said he is an insurance policy when Wafer leaves next year.
I liked what little of his game I saw tonight. We need more blowouts so we can continue to see what he's all about.
His form on his jumpshot seemed pretty good on both the midrange shot and the 3 ball he took. Clearly the turnovers were due to him not being familiar with his teamates and the speed of the other athletes on the opposing team. It will be interesting to see if the team signs him for the remainder of the season, I would expect them to do so, White could be Wafer insurance, I would like to get a look at his D, but I would give him a 7 on his debut on jumpshot form alone. DD
Just looking at his size and athleticism, he has the tools to be a very good defender. He's 6'7" with long arms and can jump out of the building, its just a matter of effort from there. Offensively he looked solid(other than not being familiar with his teammates). His shot looked solid, the form was good. Now, if he proves to be as aggressive as Wafer going to the bucket, then the Rox have something. Plenty of guys can shoot the rock decently, but few can attack the rim like Wafer has proven he can. James White has gained a ton of weight since he came out of college, and the scary thing is he still looks skinny.
I like what i saw from him today, nice looking jumper, which is extremely important on this team. The rockets will have the rest of the season and all of the offseason to work with him before they have to make any decisions on him.
We will have to see if he can play within a structured system on a consistent basis and how he reacts to pressure situations if the Rockets decide to keep him over the rest of the season and next year.
I liked that he got a block on his first defensive possession, and he ran the court hard. Couldn't handle the alley oop from Barry, though, but in his defense the pass was off. His jumper looked very smooth to me. His dribbling and passing didn't impress, but it's hard to judge in only a few minutes. Is he a good rebounder? For a guy with his athleticism, 5 rpg at the D-league level doesn't seem like a whole lot. I think rebounding and defense will be key for him sticking with us.
Absolutely not for his size. You can't say that after 3 minutes. It was his debut and he made some mistakes but his handles won't be an issue for the 2 or 3 spots. He has above average handles. Better than Luther head. I like this kid. If he were come out of college right now he would be a mid first rounder if not lottery. Than only thing that can stop him from being successful is his attitude and all reports are that is changing. Hopefully it's true.
Dribbling, passing will be just as important as defense and shooting IMO. Rebounding probably not as much as he is a slightly built SF.
Sometimes, I wonder if some of you guys should become full time scouts. No pun intended. It's a compliment.
He seems to be a lazy dribbler and passer. I don't know if you can credit that to being unfamiliar with the system just yet, but what I wasn't impressed by is how he dragged his feet on the court. He seems to have a good shot, but he doesn't get much lift when he shoots which could be a problem especially since his release doesn't seem to be very fast. I think he's being overrated on this board but his handles and passing ability seems to be on par with Luther Head. I say this not because of the garbage time he got tonight, but because of the games I've seen him in summer league and NBDL games.
