This arguing is stupid. The girl was having fun while killing puppies. Stop trying to rationalize such behavior and calling people hypocrites for having a visceral emotional reaction to it.
PETA kills animals all the time. Who gives a crap if the person who does it has the job for the money or the lulz.
We don't know why she was killing the puppies. For wall we know, her farmer dad commanded her to do it. I get what you guys are saying: It's okay to kill for food, otherwise it's mostly not okay (with some exceptions like self-defense).
The "crime' is the commiter's implied intent. There is no crime in supplying the necessary food to sustain life. A crocodile is not a bad animal for eating a deer. Whether human beings should limit their consumption to plant life is an evolving debate. Some credible hypotheses suggest that plants may also have awareness, that would leave some 'ethical' vegetarians in a lurch. The crime here is the intentional affront to the near universal credo of empathy for the defenselessness and the sanctity of innocence. The group-think rebuke seems required to maintain a bulwark against a regression into chaos; our own fear that we too would be subject to any kind of sociopathic violence if men weren't able to agree on some standards of behavior.
People kill animals for pleasure all the time in this country and in a lot more brutal ways than this.
I dunno. I never claimed PETA did anything and nor did I claim anyone killed anything in self defense.
If they film it an put it out for the world to judge, very few will defend them. Euthanasia is ethical and merciful. My wife has put literally hundreds of unrehabilitateable animals to sleep (KILLED!), and she cries every time.

But they do, I've seen countless videos on YouTube of bobcats, coyotes, foxes, etc. in bear traps, a number of animals shot with bullets, arrows, etc. that don't die immediately, all kinds of animals who cannot be used killed for sport (cougars, foxes, coyotes, etc.), glue traps on certain types of rodents, people feeding live feed to snakes, reptiles, fish, etc. etc. etc. There really isn't a need to go on because like I said it happens.
